| Fred06-18-07, 11:55 PM | Somewhere I thought I read about a dagger that has a compartment where you could but a dose of poison and release it when you hit a target. Does anyone know where I might have seen this? Thanks |
| Salla06-18-07, 11:58 PM | That'd be the DMG's Dagger of Venom, I do believe. |
| NeueRegel06-18-07, 11:58 PM | You could have seen that "anywhere". A movie, a book, a James Bond festival. In your defense, however, I seem to be thinking that the description of the "Dagger of Venom" was sort of like that back in the old AD&D 2nd Edition hardcover books. I don't own them anymore, I can't verify that. Not that it matters. Poison was *so* 1980's... *wink* Neue |
| AAB06-19-07, 12:50 AM | there are alchemical weapon capsules in the complete adventurer which, despite the name, can be used to store poison. they make applying a poison to your blade a swift action. |
| BroadStreetBully06-19-07, 12:56 AM | true story, it only fits one dose at a time, and activating it is a swift action. the capsule costs 100 gp, or you can buy a triple-capsule that costs more (not sure how much). refilling a capsule takes a full round action that provokes AoO's. |
| dengarbountyhunter06-19-07, 10:17 AM | The pictures of them pretty much suck. I mean, just how can you stab someone with a sword like this, and just how can you activate them? I KNOW that pictures are just for visualisation's sake, but they could have done them more "realistic" ("realistic" in a D&D kind of way...). |
| Eikre06-19-07, 10:54 AM | You'll note that the same guy who drew the alchemical capsules is the guy who draws every single ****ing one of his Rapiers as curved blades. |
| BroadStreetBully06-19-07, 12:12 PM | seriously. |
| Fred06-19-07, 12:23 PM | That'd be the DMG's Dagger of Venom, I do believe. What I am looking for is not the Dagger of Venom, nor anything else listed here. It is a dagger that has a compartment where you can put a poison (any type from the DMG or elsewhere) and when you hit you can release it as a free action. It is possible to hit a target and not release the poison (saving it for a later target). Thanks anyway. |
| AAB06-19-07, 01:25 PM | You'll note that the same guy who drew the alchemical capsules is the guy who draws every single ****ing one of his Rapiers as curved blades. in his defense, he was most likely looking at modern sport fencing as inspiration for his fantasy rapiers. since a real-world rapier was actually too heavy to be effectively used in double-time (fighting and defending with the same sword), he could have done worse. all the fencers i know (not saying everyone, but all who i know) purposely bend their blades about the same amount that his rapier illustrations are. this helps in two areas: 1.) the blade will always bend the same direction on a hit, making it less likely to break on any given thrust 2.) the curve helps to get around defenses and score hits on the sides/back of the body so if i were to magically transport myself into the DnD universe and had to pick up a weapon to defend myself against orcs/goblins/unruly adventurers i'd actually prefer one of his "curved" rapiers. |
