Heya Folks,
Just a question that has been irking me for quite a while. Does the damage reduction of the adamantine armor sort, i.e. 1, 2 or 3 /- stack with the damage reduction provided by a Barbarian's 7th level class ability which is also of the /- sort.

Thanks a bunch.

As lame as it is, by RAW they do not. There are some class abilities (Survivor PrC?) that state that the DR/- you gain from them stacks with other class abilities. Because of that, everyone rules that they don't stack.

The DMG states that DR of multiple types don't stack. It goes on talking about DR/silver and DR/evil. It says nothing at all about DR/silver and DR/silver. I've argued this before, but I think that there are two possible reasons they didn't mention it:
1) Obviously, if you reduce the damage of everything but piercing weapons, then anything that furthers that reduction.. stacks. DUH.
2) We don't have to write up every frickin' variance to a rule. There's a general rule, DR doesn't stack with other types of DR. DR from armor is a different type than DR from a class ability. And even though the descriptions are the same, you are to assume that DR from classes are different.... ya.

But hey, I'm jaded. I think they should stack. DR/piercing should stack with DR/piercing, but not with DR/potatoes. Different types, reading type to be similar to what is presented in the DMG - namely silver and evil. Not DR/silver from armor and DR/silver from the cool magic bracelet you stole and DR/silver from being a Lycanthrope. IMO, DR sucks nuggets and stacking DR3/- with DR7/- isn't going to break your game.
