I know that DR of different kinds (IE silver and magic) don't stack if they are gained separately, only the highest applies.
Do sources of the same kind of DR stack? For example a warforged character with adamantite body and stone skin? Or the alt class feature for barbarians in the PHB2 stack with the normal DR a barbarian gains?

To me, it often depends on the circumstances:

For example a lycanthrope with stone skin: First, the blow has to penetrate the stone skin. Then the rest of the damage has to actually harm the lycanthrope and it just instantly heals most damage not made by silver weapons. In this situation, the DRs should definately stack.

If you cast stoneskin on an adamantine "skin", I would say it is the same "layer" of protection, so they don't stack.

As noted different types NEVER stack. If the Stoneskinned Werewolf in the previous example gets hit by something either Stoneskin absorbs the damage with the rest getting through or Stoneskin is completely avoided in which case the natural DR takes over. This is presuming the DR/adamantine from Stoneskin is better than the werewolf's DR/silver.

Even with DR of the same type they don't normally stack unless explicitly mentioned. I personally would let class/race/feat based DR of the same type stack in at least some form as all would be available to a character stripped of all possessions and magical influence.
