| Behaigo12-09-06, 02:57 PM | I was wondering if anyone could help me come up with stats for darksteel (ala MTG). Thanks |
| Fargren12-09-06, 03:10 PM | Adamantine is quite similar. |
| Norhg12-09-06, 03:12 PM | Darksteel This ultrahard metal adds to the quality of a weapon or suit of armor. Weapons fashioned from darksteel have a natural ability to bypass hardness when sundering weapons or attacking objects, ignoring hardness less than 20. Armor made from darksteel grants its wearer damage reduction of 1/- if it’s light armor, 2/- if it’s medium armor, and 3/- if it’s heavy armor. Darksteel is so costly that weapons and armor made from it are always of masterwork quality; the masterwork cost is included in the prices given below. Thus, darksteel weapons and ammunition have a +1 enhancement bonus on attack rolls, and the armor check penalty of darksteel armor is lessened by 1 compared to ordinary armor of its type. Items without metal parts cannot be made from darksteel. An arrow could be made of darksteel, but a quarterstaff could not Ammunition +60 gp Light armor +5,000 gp Medium armor +10,000 gp Heavy armor +15,000 gp Weapon +3,000 gp Shield +2,000 gp |
| Fallenangel35912-10-06, 11:24 AM | as far as I know, adamantine is another word for darksteel... remember, this isn't adamantium from the xmen comics... this is adamantine, a completely different material :) |
| Jay_Ibero_91112-10-06, 11:55 AM | Well...I suppose Darksteel could be characterized as super adamantine...you could just make it twice as powerful as adamantine at 5x the cost...it probably wouldn't be too broken to make it flat out indestructable...effectively infinite hardness...similar to a golem's spell immunity effectively being infinite SR....Maybe make darksteel double the weight of any object made out of it due to it's incredible density...So here's my take on it, with specific changes in bold: Darksteel: This ultrahard metal adds to the quality of a weapon or suit of armor. Weapons fashioned from darksteel have a natural ability to bypass hardness when sundering weapons or attacking objects, ignoring any hardness. Armor made from darksteel grants its wearer damage reduction of 2/– if it’s light armor, 4/– if it’s medium armor, and 6/– if it’s heavy armor. An arrow could be made of darksteel, but a quarterstaff could not. Due to darksteel's incredible density, items made from it also weigh twice as much as normal, and darksteel ammunition has half the normal range. Only weapons, armor, and shields normally made of metal can be fashioned from darksteel. Weapons, armor and shields normally made of steel that are made of darksteel have two-thirds more hit points than normal. Darksteel has 80 hit points per inch of thickness and infinite hardness. The only way to damage a darksteel item is with another darksteel item. Type of Darksteel Item Item Cost Modifier Ammunition +300 gp Light armor +25,000 gp Medium armor +50,000 gp Heavy armor +75,000 gp Weapon +15,000 gp |
| Fallenangel35912-10-06, 11:58 AM | I hope you realize adamantine is another name for darksteel, and thats why it bypasses any hardness under 20, because nothing is harder than it (besides glassteel, which is an oddity), and it also gives the DR at half the number you suggested |
| Norhg12-10-06, 12:00 PM | Henche why I'm partial to my Verision ;) |
| Jay_Ibero_91112-10-06, 12:04 PM | I hope you realize adamantine is another name for darksteel, and thats why it bypasses any hardness under 20, because nothing is harder than it (besides glassteel, which is an oddity), and it also gives the DR at half the number you suggested Uh...the guy is asking for a unique special material...if he wanted adamantine he would not have asked for darksteel. The key difference between darksteel and adamantium is darksteel is truly indestructable, and adamantine is not, even if it is very difficult to destroy... |
| Norhg12-10-06, 12:14 PM | Uh...the guy is asking for a unique special material...if he wanted adamantine he would not have asked for darksteel. The key difference between darksteel and adamantium is darksteel is truly indestructable, and adamantine is not, even if it is very difficult to destroy... Neither is your Darksteel. Drench an item made of it in oil, light it up and it will have been destroyed within a few minutes |
| Jay_Ibero_91112-10-06, 12:38 PM | Neither is your Darksteel. Drench an item made of it in oil, light it up and it will have been destroyed within a few minutes Umm...did you not read the part about infinite hardness? Any damage done to it except by another darksteel item would be reduced to 0 due to hardness... |
| Behaigo12-10-06, 01:06 PM | One way to put it would be "Any ammount of damage delt to an item made out of darksteel is reduced to zero, unless the damage is delt by another darksteel item." |
| Norhg12-10-06, 01:47 PM | Umm...did you not read the part about infinite hardness? Any damage done to it except by another darksteel item would be reduced to 0 due to hardness...Elemental Damage isn't migitiated by hardness. Edit: Hmm, this seems to have been changed in 3.5e... My players will hate me ;) |
| Khael12-10-06, 02:00 PM | Elemental Damage isn't migitiated by hardness. Edit: Hmm, this seems to have been changed in 3.5e... Disregard me It varies on the element type, fire, cold electricity does half damage I think it was, while acid and sound are at full damage. |
| Norhg12-10-06, 02:02 PM | Cold, by default, deals 1/4th its damage. |
| The Livewire12-10-06, 02:54 PM | Sonic Energy Ray it. It specifically ignores hardness :-) |
| Norhg12-10-06, 03:30 PM | Could get someone who likes the Stone Dragon style to do it too  |
| Fullmetal_Lich12-10-06, 10:38 PM | I believe you would be looking for "blah blah, same as Adamantine sunder blah blah qualities and some sort of fiercer DR other than 1 thru 3....." It need a definign quality and you know while you all gaggle over ways to rid the world of "darksteel" in question, any good mage can banish stuff to differant realms and planes sooooo any item in sense is useless unless it can't be banished of coarse, but thats not what darksteel is, its Indestructable to the core, not destroyable in any way shape or form so I declare a DR 5- 10- or 15- make it pricey as you want and have a fun old field day. Speaking of which, consider warforged outah darksteel?? In any case, I'm sorry if i came out rude, you guys were losing track to the post. |
| runestar12-10-06, 10:46 PM | There's darksteel in NWN2, though I doubt that's what you are looking for. Armour forged from it comes with innate electrical resistance, while weapons deal a small amount of bonus electrical damage. But then, that's coming from a module where adamantine weapons deal extra magic damage and hogs a valuable enhancement slot... |
| Qube12-11-06, 03:19 AM | lets try stay on topic here MTG darksteel. numbers: - start with adamtium - tripple the cost - remove the DR, and add indestructablity (not even a darksteel object can destroy a darksteel object) flavor: creation of darksteel: take a mix of - 85 % refinded adamantium - 5 % mythril - 10 % cold iron heat it up to 4000 degrees*, creating a homogenous liquid once it cools down, and reaches a temperature of 500 degrees, it solid remains can not be broken, and can't melt anymore. * normal fire can't burn this hot, so you'll need to resort to magical flames. this is why darksteel costs so much for warforged: - darksteel body req: lvl 21, adamantium body effect: increase armor AC with +2 , increase DR with 5/-, gain SR 25 - improved darksteel body req: lvl 21, darksteel body effect: increase armor AC with +2 , increase DR with 2/-, increase SR with 2 special: you can take this feat multple times |
| Qube12-11-06, 03:20 AM | The only way to damage a darksteel item is with another darksteel item. nope: darksteel collossus vs darksteel collossus: neither dies. |
| Fullmetal_Lich12-11-06, 10:01 AM | Indeed, i do likie your varient most of all :D |
| Norhg12-11-06, 11:09 AM | *normal fire can't burn this hot, so you'll need to resort to magical flames. this is why darksteel costs so muchYou are quite misinformed, Blast Furnaces regularily work at this effect when extracting iron. |
| Qube12-12-06, 01:54 AM | You are quite misinformed, Blast Furnaces regularily work at this effect when extracting iron. it was yust a number (note that i did not give it a unit (celcius, farenheit, ... ) ). oh, well, time to edit the post |
| Coren12-12-06, 02:08 AM | What is this stuff and where did you guys find it?!?! |
| Qube12-12-06, 02:12 AM | What is this stuff and where did you guys find it?!?! Magic the gathering. (if you don't know it: its a popular CCG from wizards of the cost). about the stats: in the back of my head. if you ask specificly for non-DnD related stuff converted to DnD, the chance you'll find stuff in books is very VERY small. (example: indestructable does NOT exits in DnD) |
| KurenaiYami12-12-06, 03:28 AM | (if you don't know it: its a popular CCG from wizards of the cost). ...I am totally going to start calling them that. I feel that it is my right after spending over three grand on their products. |
| Qube12-12-06, 04:09 AM | ...I am totally going to start calling them that. I feel that it is my right after spending over three grand on their products. totally not deliberate. no really.:noway: |
| Behaigo12-12-06, 10:54 AM | How 'bout this: Darksteel Darksteel is a rare, ultrahard metal mined on the plane of Mirrodin and only occurs in small, rare veins. The forging process requires it be heated to temperatures in excess of 8,000 degrees (fire of this degree only occur on the lower planes and the elemental plane of fire, necessitating powerful magic, such as gate to reproduce them on any other plane). Once it is forged there is no force able to damage or alter its physical structure in any way. Once forged it appears as a dark gray metal with yellow, energized "halos." Due to its incredible density weapons and armor are considered one size category heavier than normal (though the appropriate exotic weapon proficiency allows a weapon to be treated as its normal size). Darksteel adds to the quality of a weapon or suit of armor. Weapons fashioned from darksteel are treated as one size category larger for purposes of dealing damage and have their critical multiplier increased by one step (x2 becomes x3, x3 becomes x4 and so on). Armor made from darksteel grants its wearer damage reduction of 5/– if it’s light armor, 10/– if it’s medium armor, and 15/– if it’s heavy armor (this is based on the "normal" weight category, thus darksteel chain mail grants a 10/- damage reduction). Also, any magical enhancements cost twice the normal amount. Items without metal parts cannot be made from darksteel. An arrow could be made of darksteel, but a quarterstaff could not. Only weapons, armor, and shields normally made of metal can be fashioned from adamantine. Weapons, armor and shields normally made of steel that are made of darksteel cannot be delt damage from any source. They are also immune to all polymorphing and other altering abilities. Type of Adamantine Item Item Cost Modifier Ammunition +600 gp Light armor +50,000 gp Medium armor +100,000 gp Heavy armor +150,000 gp Weapon +30,000 gp |
