Quick question. If I have both a +5 chain shirt, and a +5 dastana, would I use the chain shirt's enhancement bonus, the dastana's, or would they stack? Also, could I use the shirt and dastana with a shield and have all three bonuses stack?

the enchantment bonus would not stack ... but you would still get the normal +1 from having a dastana ... and yes you can use a shield, again you wouldn't get any enchantment bonus, but you'd still get the shields normal bonus.

+5 chain shirt = +9 AC

+5 Dastana = +1 AC

[edit: OOOPS!]
+5 small shield = +6 AC (or +7 if you use a large shield)

total: +16 AC (or +17 w/Large shield)

[edit: see below too, iirc chahar-ainas and dastana's can be worn together ... ala a piecemeal type armor]

Actually i am almost positive they do (well not the dastana enchancement) but a shield give you a shield bonus and armour gives you an armour bonus. and the enhanncments affect the shield and the armour, not just a general enchancement bonus.

I'm with Wharin on this one.

Dastana's magical enchancements don't stack with the base armor (Chain shirt, padded, or leather) but they DO stack with shields. The same goes for Char-Ana (the other part of the armor augmentations from OA, same as Datsanas, but they also stack with the base armor and Dastanas)

Remember, you're basically trading your bracer slot for +1 AC and the ability to get more enhancements. It's no better or worse than bracers of armor.

That's because that is exactly what it is. Bracers of armor are nothing more than Dastana with an armor enhancement. However, because they are made of a lighter material, bracers (as described in D&D) do not count as armor and thus do not require light armor proficiency, while dastana are made of steel or other similarly hard and heavy materials. Which, BTW, is completely BS, since bracers (vambraces) are a standard piece included in most medium and heavy armor types.

I suppose the next thing to do is look at all the other pieces of armor. Breast Plate armor has greaves (dastana for the legs  ) and a studded leather skirt (tasses). Shall we enchant these as seperate armor pieces? Half-Plate is described as chainmail with a breastplate, epaulettes, elbow guards, guantlets, tasses, and greaves. That is two suits of armor and several extra pieces (3 suits of armor, actually, since chainmail is described as being worn over padded). Can we enchant each of these as seperate armor pieces? How about piecemealing these with the dastana and char-ana? Full plate goes even further. It can be carried ad naseum.

Please note that both Dastana and Char-Ana stack ONLY with (at best) chain shirts and with the shirt make the equivalent of Banded mail. Your claim about the excessiveness of adding armor makes less sense, since the Char-ana requires Med armor proficiency and also costs movement. It's about making lighter armors heavier in a setting without heavy armor (OA) and they transfered into the standard 3.5.

doh! ... you guys are 100% right, shield is a seperate bonus!!!

but the +'s to chahar-aina's and dastana's will not stack with the +'s for armor.

hmmm, difficult to say with shield bonus though ... the last official word on this was the OA flavored Dragon Mag. (3.0)

and chahar-ainas and dastanas will work with padded, leather, and chainshirt (I think I got those right)

so:

+5 chain shirt
+5 dastana
+5 chahar-aina (I think you can wear both actually)
+5 small shield

would get you +9 (chainshirt) +1 (dastana) +1 (chahar-aina) +6 (small shield)= AC 27 ... and all the ACP's and ASF's stack.

You could always get the dastana enchanted with other abilities...

Then they become marginally superior to bracers, since you pretty much get a free +1 to armor.

Correct. That's what they're supposed to be: marginally better versions of bracers of armor that require a feat to use.
