Dastana questions [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-08-05, 10:10 PM Dastana (Arms and Equipment Guide p15): This pair of metal bracers can be worn in addition to some other types of armor to provide an additional armor bonus that stacks with both the foundation armor and anyshield worn. You can wear dastana with padded , leather, or chain shirt armor. You need the Armor Proficiency (light) feat to wear dastana without penalty.
Cost: 25 gp
Armor Bonus : +1
Max Dex Bonus: -
Armor Check Penalty: -1
Arcane Spell Failure: 5%
Speed: -
Weight: 5 lb.

I figure if you have the bracer's slot open, 25 gp for +1 AC sounds pretty good. What I can't figure out is if you can add a magic bonus to these and have it stack with the magic bonus that is on the foundation armor.

I tried to search on "Dastana" but came up empty.

03-08-05, 11:46 PM 'can be worn in addition to other types of armor' - sure sounds to me like dastana is armor, so enchant it to your heart's content.

the armor bonus provided by dastana stacks with the armor bonus provided by a suit of armor, so even if that armor bonus changes size (say, an enhancement bonus makes it bigger), it will still stack.

if you are looking for a way to pile on armor-enhancements, you might consider Bracers of Armor instead of Dastana... the armor bonus wouldnt stack with a suit of armor, but the other enhancements still would - and Bracers can be worn with _any_ armor, not just some light stuff.

if you happen to be wearing the right kind of armor, and have a few gp to spare, Dastana _are_ a decent way to pick up another point of AC :p

03-08-05, 11:55 PM I've always said that magical bonuses are considered to provide the same type of overall bonus as the item they're attached to. This is actually one of the situations that came up. A player wanted to wear a shirt with magic vestment cast on it underneath a suit of chainmail with a shield and a dastana for a really high AC. Since the shirt functions as armor, its "armor bonus" from magic did not stack with the chainmail's armor bonus; however, shields and dastana specifically state that they stack with regular armor and each other, so a +5 chain shirt with a +5 buckler and +5 dastana would be a viable option.
