On pg. 15 of Arms & Equipment, it talks about dastana. You add them to padded, leather and chain shirt armors and they stack with armor and shield bonuses. It's only a +1 so I'm willing to allow them in my game, BUT should they be enchantable? Are they truly seperate from armor or more of stack to armor...

Thanks for y'all's help.

Well, according to the table, Dastana counts as a shield, acting much like a Buckler, except that you don't take any penalties to attack rolls(made with that hand, I mean) while wearing it, as well as not losing the bonus to AC while making attacks with that hand.

As for enchanting, I'd allow it. Keep in mind that the bonus from Dastana, as a shield, wouldn't stack with other shield bonuses, so it would be able to grant its enchantment bonus on top of the armor itself. Its sorta like really cheap Bracers of Armor for the appropriate armor types.

It does stack with the shield bonus. The only question is whether the enchantment itself (if magically thus enchanted) stacks with the enchantment on the armor and the sheild ... essentially whether it stacks with only one, neither, or both.

Hey Gala, I see you're fishing for the same answer. We must play in the same group, ha ha.

As far as I can remember (noting that I'm away from the relevant book and it's not a part of the game I'm that savvy with), dastanas can be enchanted but the enhancement bonus will overlap with the enhancement bonus of any armour you are wearing.

Well it provides "an additional Armor bonus that stacks with both the foundation armor and any shield worn" so any enhancement to that (explicitly stated to stack) bonus should add on (just as the different enhancement bonus stack on shield and armor).

Yes they can be enchanted. Should they be? Probably not.

Dastana are from Oriental Adventures and are basically "sleeve shields" (large armores sleeves). China and Japan never used shields like Europe did so without shields you get the same AC, with some benefits, you're used to seeing in most games.

If you also use shields and allow them to stack you can get 6 higher AC plus armor benefits.
