Hey everyone whove read the waylander books byy gemmel will know of the crossbow but how would it function in D&D

I'm guessing a Hand Crossbow that has two shots

But how much would the costing be etc.

Any help would be good.

I'd say a mastercrafted hand crossbow to start. Waylander paid "a fortune in opals" to have it made, so I'd say it was probably at least 2000gp.

Its "deadly at ranges up to 30 feet", so I'd say increase the damage to 1d6 within 30'.

I'd also increase the threat range by 1 to 18-20.

It has 2 quarrels. They may be fired 1 at a time normally. Or both may be fired at a single target with a -2 penalty using a single to-hit roll as a standard action.

Reloading is a standard action.

Keep in mind these suggestions are for making the crossbow what it is, a non-magical legendary weapon that is probably the finest crossbow of any kind in the world. I certainly wouldn't use these suggestions as a template for "normal" weapons development.
