For the limited use you'll get out of it, it's probably a lot cheaper to buy a few scrolls than to work hard on getting a custom item. One trouble with the scroll: The DC is only 13. You can fix that by casting Bestow Curse on your victim twice, once to give him a –4 penalty on attack rolls, saves, ability checks, and skill checks and a second time to give him a –6 decrease to an ability score (Wisdom). I envision carrying around a few cages of chickens, keeping two unconcious but stable, double-cursed so they can't resist the Death Knell very well. When my neutral cleric hits level 3, the voodoo chicken sacrifices will begin.
