jera 04-09-05, 08:10 PM	yes u can decapitate ppl in fights if u take the right actions its a -2 on the attack rolls because you are aiming for a specific part of the body and u have to score a critical the having to score a critical is a house rule but the penaltie is in the books
Begle1 04-09-05, 08:38 PM	Jera's system is a wee bit outdated. In 3.X you cannot aim for a specific part of the body. Just assume that on a successful blow that takes the baddy to -10 that the baddy is decapitated. Or you could use a vorpal sword, which is a +4 enchantment. (I think they lowerd it in 3.5, right?)

Santrilla 04-10-05, 05:27 AM	Decapitation rules were pretty much eliminated in 3.0. You can take someone's head off if you have a Vorpal weapon and score a critical, and if you're battling a hydra you can remove its heads. But otherwise no.

BW0222 04-10-05, 11:30 AM	a) Score a critical hit from a slashing weapon when your opponent has only 2hp or so left, and allow your DM to describe the effects of 28 points of damage on him. b) Do 50hp or more of damage in a single hit (from a slashing weapon), have the opponent fail their fort save, and allow your DM to describe the effects of the attack on your opponent. In both cases, chances are fairly goods that the blow struck the chest, neck, head, etc. However, it's only flavor-text for describing the effects of the 'final blow' in combat. Nothing in the 3.5 rules allows you to just do it. The rules assume you are always trying to get that blow in, but luck, your opponents ability to avoid such blows, etc. usually keep it from happening.

Aye, but coup de grace is basically instant death. So it could be decapitation, or it could just be a rapier through the heart. Point is, decapitation is nothing more than flavour text in 3.5. With the exception of vorpal, it's not explicitly mentioned, nor is it ruled for.
