DMG says that AC bonus from defending weapon is "a bonus that stacks with all others". It would not have to be different? I suppose defending weapon should grant a "defensive bonus" or something similiar, so defensive bonus doesn't stack with other defensive bonuses. +15 free AC bonus is a little insane.
ashcat_lt 12-27-04, 02:43 PM	+5 armor and +5 shield have to stack! That's most of the point of magical armor. +5 defending weapon would also stack. Yes, that's +15 AC, but it is defenitely not free, just look at the market price.

ashcat_lt 12-27-04, 03:37 PM	well then why not let them stack? the +5 defending bonuses costs 72,000 gp for each. That's 216,000 just for the enhancements (not to mention the masterwork items themselves). If you were 16th level you could afford this and maybe a pair of cheap sunglasses. By the time you get to that level, you should really be looking for AC around 30 or so (check the NPC fighter on table 4-16 3.5DMG page 117)
evangelion1010 12-27-04, 03:44 PM	Still, its very nice for higher level characters to use to easily boost their AC sky high... Of course, as a DM, i don't think i'd allow you to defend with armor or shield spikes...
ashcat_lt 12-27-04, 03:56 PM	If you went on to add enhancement bonuses to the armor and shield itself, you'd end up spending even more money. Keep in mind also that with these defending weapons it is a trade-off. In order to get those bonuses to AC, you give up all bonuses to attack, and might as well be fighting with nonmagical weapons. And since your opponents at this level probably have a comparable AC...
