My character needs help against trip attacks. I'm a 7th level tank. SAM 3 / FTR 2 / KEN 2.

Are there magic items or feats I can take to defend against trip ?

I'm great against Grapple due to my Close Qrt Combat feat... but trip is becoming annoying.

If you have the Lightning Reflexes feat and a Dex of 15 or more, consider the Prone Attack feat from Complete Warrior. Enemies will still be able to trip you, but they won't get any bonus when attacking you in melee, and you won't get any penalty on your attack rolls, plus you can get up as a free action if one of your attacks hit.

Anything that increases Str, Dex, or size will help against trips. Enlarge Person is very useful in this regards. You should also remember you get a chance to trip the opponent back if his trip fails. What are you fighting anyhow, a bunch of ogre mages with spiked chains?

I took on 2 Minotaurs.... one tried to grapple me (failed) but his buddy popped me with a spiked chain. I ended up taking him out with my -4 to hit.. I critted on him but I barely did it with 20hp's left.

Hmm I have a 16 DEX so this looks like a good option for me. I'll check it out. Thanks.

Voila.

Resist Trip: If you have 10 or more ranks in Balance, you can make a Balance check in place of a Strength or Dexterity check to avoid being tripped by an opponent. You take a -10 penalty on your Balance check. If you succeed on this check, you are not tripped. When you succeed on a Balance check to resist being tripped, you may not attempt to trip your opponent.

Prone Attack is nice too.

You can always grow two more legs, or become a dwarf. :rimshot:

Steadfast Boots in the Arms and Equipment Guide protect you from being tripped and bullrushed.

One reason the Minotaur had such an easy time tripping you was that it had a size advantage (+4 per size class). You can help make up that difference with Enlarge Person (+4 to trip for size, and another +1 for the increased STR). Enlarge is a 1st level spell, and it has a range, so it's very easy for the party archanist to buff you with it when needed. If he doesn't want to learn/prep it, buy him a wand (750 gp for 50 charges). If he won't even take the standard action, you can just drink a potion, yourself, at 50gp for 1st level (though, you'll probably want to drink it well before the fight, so a longer durration can be a plus). At higher level, Polymorph becomes an option, as well.

What about a reach weapon for yourself (Something like a Naginata/ Guisarme/ etc.)?

Helps against people closing in to trip you, especially those that use reach weapons to do this (Which makes a even 3rd lvl fighter with a guisarme and improved trip mean enough - trip/ follow with attack/ attack again when opponents tries to stand up).

Or get a better touch AC to prevent getting tripped in the first place... (Combat expertise is always great if your character has brains enough...)
