| BlackFiend10-18-04, 01:30 PM | This is, of course, referring to the Dervish prestige class ability "Dervish Dance". Do all of those attacks have to be attacks? Could they be trips since that is considered an attack? I picture a scene where my character rips through a group of orcs, improved tripping them all during the dervish dance and attacking each of them while prone. Is this correct? |

| Talanall10-19-04, 02:14 AM | There's no limit as to what sort of weapon you can use, beyond the proviso that it must be a slashing weapon. So you must be able to trip with the weapon in order to trip as part of a dervish dance, and you must be wielding a slashing weapon. This is a tall order. However, there is an exotic weapon which fits the bill almost perfectly. The khopesh, published in the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting book, is basically a longsword that can be used to trip things. It's associated with the nation of Mulhorand in that setting, which is basically Egypt. Flavor-wise, it's pretty much ideal. No awkward questions have to be answered about why a dervish is wielding a weapon indigenous to a desert culture. And I'm pretty sure that mechanics-wise, it's the only way to accomplish what BlackFiend seems to want. |
| Hypersmurf10-19-04, 04:12 AM | There's no limit as to what sort of weapon you can use, beyond the proviso that it must be a slashing weapon. Okay. So from the PHB, that's Guisarme, Halberd, Sickle, Kama, Scythe, or Whip. -Hyp. |
| carnivore10-19-04, 09:01 AM | or better yet whipdagger :D |
| BlackFiend10-19-04, 04:51 PM | I'll be using the guisarme, more than likely. Although the khopesh would be mighty useful as a back up weapon, me thinks. I'll have to take a closer look at it. If only "slashing blades" ability from Dervish was any sword, instead of just scimitars. Draats! |
| Ipsissimus10-20-04, 05:57 AM | guisarme by far would be an excellent choice due to the AoO's you might provoke whilst dancing. This way at least you can do it from 10 ft away and have the benefits of a 2handed wpn. |
| carnivore10-20-04, 07:08 AM | IIRC slashing blades works with any "Slashing" weapon |
| BlackFiend10-20-04, 09:00 AM | IIRC = If I recall, right? No...slashing blades is only for scimitars. Its fairly balancing, as the weapon is now considered a light weapon usable during a grapple. You also take the penalties of it being a light weapon, meaning, -4 on disarms/sunders/ etc. |
| Egres10-20-04, 09:03 AM | IIRC = If I recall, right? . IIR Correctly. |
| carnivore10-20-04, 09:04 AM | my appologies , i was refering to the dervish dance ability....you are correct about the slashing blades only for scimiatrs..my bad ;) |
