| TheCarrionCrawler08-04-07, 02:03 AM | The rules in the DMG don't explain to me well enough how to determine prices of wands. More to the point, how much is the price a wand of darkvision? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! CC |

The important thing is that the minimum value for the caster level is the lowest level someone could be to cast that spell (so CL3 for a level 2 spell). Darkvision is one of those spells that has two potential levels. The Ranger one and the Sorc/Wiz one. In that case it depends who made it... you can generally assume it won't be the ranger. So, you're looking at 4500gp (2 * 3 * 750) for 50 charges of darkvision at 3 hours per casting. You can have wands made at a higher caster level to increase level dependent effects (in this case duration) and/or higher spell levels to factor in metamagics. |

| Kouk08-05-07, 06:42 PM | Generally, a quick way to do a price check is to open to the DMG (or MIC I suppose) where they show similar items. If you are looking for a Wand of a 2nd level Arcane spell, just go to that table and you will see the price is most often 4,500gp. Since Darkvision has no expensive material components, and no additional XP cost for casting it, then the price would be 4,500 for a 2nd level Arcane Wand with the minimum Caster Level. And to do the math Spell Level (2) x Caster Level (3) x 750 = 4,500. |
| Nom08-06-07, 07:19 AM | Simple answers: PH pg 92, Craft Wand: "the base price of a wand is its caster level x spell level x 750gp". DMG pg 284, table 7-32 and DMG pg 287 instead list the prices for crafting a wand, which aren't necessarily as clear. It doesn't help that the wand "base price" on table 7-32 is wrong; the listed value is actually the base crafting cost, which is half the base price. |
