| MasterOfPsychic03-10-05, 09:40 AM | As I was playing yeasterday, a Monk/Fist of Zouken was manifesting a standard action power, (Force screen) but was killed during AoO. Is the power canceled? |
| kingrthr303-10-05, 11:37 AM | If you take damage while manifesting a power, you need to make a Concentration check, DC 10 + points of damage taken + level of the power. Failure means the power fails. I'm not sure it's explicitly stated anywhere in the rules, but I don't think you can make skill checks while dead. So yes, the power is cancelled. |
| DarknessEternal03-10-05, 11:59 AM | Attacks of Oppurtunity occur before the action that provoked them. Check your Player's Handbook on that. So, yes, the power doesn't go off since the guy died before he ever got to use it. |
| Salla03-10-05, 01:49 PM | The above posters are correct; Attacks of Opportunity go off before the event that triggered them is completed, otherwise you couldn't disrupt spellcasting because the spell would already be complete (for example). Besides, what does a corpse need with a +4 shield bonus, anyway? :D |
| NeueRegel03-10-05, 03:02 PM | Hey, this brings up something that I've been confuzzled about; Do (successful) AoO's disrupt a bowman? Is the bow/arrows knocked aside? Does he have to make a concentration check? Etc. NeueRegel |
| Jack Greylock03-10-05, 03:12 PM | Not unless the bowman dies NeueRegel. |
| shadow_walker2.003-10-05, 04:26 PM | I thought that AoO happened at the same time as the action that provoked it but I may be wrong it just seems to me that it would make more sense if you attacked them med spell cast. but that's just may take on it all. |
| q'afuu03-10-05, 04:39 PM | I thought that AoO happened at the same time as the action that provoked it ... This is essentially correct. However, AoOs are resolved first because the provoking action might otherwise make it impossible to make the AoO (for instances, an AoO provoked by movement couldn't be taken after the moving character has moved out of reach). AoOs can't happen before the action that provokes them, because they are reactive: you have to provoke them before they can happen. |
| Drachasor03-10-05, 04:54 PM | They are resolved first because they can stop the action from happening (such as if you kill the person that provoked the AoO). -Drachasor |
