I'm trying to work through handling a disarm as a standard action followed by a move action to pick up the disarmed weapon.

Disarm clearly states the fallen weapon is in the disarmed entities square.

Having been disarmed, the entity is most likely no longer an attack of oppurtunity threat.

Assuming the disarmer was standing next to the disarmed, can the disarmer use her move action to retrieve the weapon? If she can, is there anything the disarmed can do about it?

While it is clear the disarmed should not get an attack of oppurtunity if the disarmer moves away, retrieves an item from her own belongings, or picks up an item at her feet, ite seems unreasonable that an item (the disarmed weapon) lying at the feet of the disarmed can be retrieved with no threat of reprisal or hinderance fromt the disarmed (if the disarmer can even reach the weapon -- five feet [for medium creatures] is a long way to reach to get to an item on the ground).

What do you think? Please back up with rules if you can.

I think you can only pick up an item in your own square.

But if you want your opponent's weapon, you can always attempt a disarm with your unarmed strike, since it ends up in your hand then.

There is also the feat Snatch Ruin that if you fight with nothing in your off hand, and disarm them, you can grab the disarmed weapon in your off hand and even get a free attack with it.

First introduced in 3.0, it was converted to 3.5 in Champions of Ruin

Lasher prestige class from Sword and Fist.

Standard action: Disarm. Move action: retrieve unattended item weighing up to 20 pounds and placing it in your offhand.

Take the throw anything feat and whip the weapon back at them next round.
