| thannider04-30-05, 03:53 AM | I seldom visit this board, so hopefully I'm not asking a frequent question. In one of the games I'm involved in, one of the players is using an animated shield. Because it has a +4 enhancement bonus, sundering it wasn't an option, and his foe decided to disarm it instead. So, the question that came up, and which I thought I'd ask others' opinions on, was whether a character can be disarmed of an animated shield floating next to him. |
| Callahan04-30-05, 04:20 AM | well it's basicly treated as though you are using the shield while it is flying around you. So in theory you should be able to disarm him/her as though you were "Grabbing Items". |
| K_Man04-30-05, 12:26 PM | Also, have your trusty Cleric/Mage Dispe/Greater Dispel it for a while. It would then just be a really expensive paperweight lying on the ground. |
| thannider04-30-05, 02:28 PM | While tactical advice is appreciated, dispelling isn't an option. I've already ruled on the situation and the game has moved on. I'm simply looking for opinions on what the correct ruling is, for future instances. Anyone else have an opinion? If you think Callahan's interpretation is incorrect, what would the answer be? If he's right, please post to let me know that you agree with him. |

I'd have to think about the bonuses I would give it. |

This is an error in one of the books, but it was clarified in an Errata or FAQ to not be the case. Having a higher enhancement bonus just gives an item more hardness and hit points, but you can still sunder it with a plain old non-magical sword, if you can swing it hard enough. |
| thannider05-02-05, 01:42 AM | Hmm, that's true. I'd missed the deletion of that sentence in the errata. Thanks for pointing that out PhaedrusXY! |
