For example, you are bitten by two different rats in the same battle. In both cases you fail your saving throws and are infected with filth fever (you might not know this but the DM does). One instance of filth fever incubates the next day. The second instance the day after that.

Thus you could have filth fever twice if you didn't get some alternate help to fight off the first instance (beyond just making your saving throw, since it takes two successful in a row)?

or is it

You either have it or you don't. If at any point you have it and get it again just ignore the new instance of it?

how about poison? I assume you can be poisoned multiple times.

any help would be great, particular pointing to a written rule on this.

No.

But you CAN get even more poisoned if you drink twice as much Kool Aid.

Multiple doses of poison, however, do stack.
