Can the effects of any of the alchemical items listed here (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/goodsAndServices.html#special-substances-and-items) be dispelled? A few of them seem magical in nature.

No they can not be dispelled because they are not magical.

Everburning Torch: This otherwise normal torch has a continual flame spell cast upon it. An everburning torch clearly illuminates a 20-foot radius and provides shadowy illumination out to a 40-foot radius.
That seems magical

An everburning torch is not an alchemical item, it is a torch with the spell continual flame cast on it. It is a 'Superior Item'. And yes, continual flame can be dispeled.

Real alchemical items are not magical in any way, despite some short sighted oaf putting a note that crafting them requires spellcasting levels on them.

OK I missed that part below.

Any of these substances except for the everburning torch and holy water can be made by a character with the Craft (alchemy) skill.
Will detect magic reveal holy water to be just that -- holy water?

Holy water is made with bless water and detect magic will give you the proper school.

Thanks Vaalingrade.

But if it can be detected by magic, can it also be dispelled?

bless water has an intantaneus duration. You can no more dispel holy water than a wall of iron.

By the logic above, will detect magic reveal the proper school from a wall of iron?

There should be a lingering aura, but it probably won't last very long.

A bit illogical. Why can holy water be affected by detect magic, yet wall of iron only gets a lingering aura that will probably soon disappear? They are both in the alchemical items section.

Is the relevant info in the core rules (about one being affected by detect magic while the other isn't), and if so where?

Thanks!

A wall of iron is not in the alchemical items section.

And yes, the rules for instantaneus durations is in the Core under spell durations.

Correct :D Was thinking of something else.

OK looked at the PHB, it says that duration means the effects are generally long-lasting -- for example, a magically cured person doesn't become " uncured" after a certain time. However, it doesn't mention anything being subject to detect magic (like in the holy water example).
