The phb says a caster has to check for the total damage dealt, but I can imagine the multiple small stings can foil a caster as well. If for example he would be dealt 11 damage by an arrow, and 3, 4, 4 and 2 damage (13 damage) on a magic missile volley. Would he check for a single dc 33 concentration check or check multiple times at dc 21 for the arrow; dc 13, dc 14 twice and dc 12 for the magic missiles. |

| Neutronium_Dragon05-08-07, 09:31 PM | It's total damage per attack/disruption, not for all disruptions added together. That is, the Magic Missile spell does 13 damage and forces a DC 23 check, and the arrow does 11 damage and forces a DC 21 check. (You'd also need to add the spell's level in each case.) |
| jacobi28905-08-07, 09:33 PM | I always ruled that you make the concentration check whenever you take damage, and the DC = 10 + spell level + damage you just took (the reason why you are now rolling the check) +1/2 any other damage you received between when you began casting and when the check is made (continuous damage as per PHB page 70). So say 3 fighters ready an action to attack a mage when he casts a level 2 spell: The mage begins casting and fighter one attacks and hits for 8 damage. The mage must make a con check DC 20 (10+2+8). Fighter 2 attacks and hits for 4 damage. Another con check DC 20 (10+2+4+4). Fighter 3 attacks and hits for 10 damage. 3rd con check, DC 28 (10+2+10+4+2). |
