| Skaflock11-07-06, 04:03 PM | I've seen a few threads around lately detailing creative uses of arcane spells. Does anyone have any creative uses of divine spells they'd like to share? Particularly interested in clever use of lower level (0-3) divine spells. I'm playing a cleric (more or less for the first time, after all these years), and was hoping for something fun to throw at my DM. Thanks! |

(Brambles, Divine Favour, Shield of Faith, Magical Vestments) Spell Focus & GSF (Enchantment) are good with Hold Person and high wisdom. Followed by Coup de Grace. Spell Focus & GSF (Evocation) are good with Sound Burst and high wisdom. You might also consider stone shaping cages and the like. Also, have a look at the low level domain spells. You might find something in there. [Edit] heh, just saw this by VioletElf on the 1001 Dirty Combat Tricks thread... Cast Silence on a Tanglefoot bag, throw at enemy wizards |

So Quicken is an optimal feat to have by 12th level. 'Make Whole' tends to ruin the DM's day often enough that I usually have one memorized even if I almost always sack it for cure spells. Another is don't be the parties heals on wheels. Nothing blows more than buffing up for combat then spending the whole time asking who need healing? Get a cohort, or better yet get the fighter to have a cleric cohort. At the very least get a wand of cure light wounds (or lesser viggor) as soon as possible. Do you have a monk in the group, or a fighter that would be willing to use unarmed attacks? Spell Compendium Girallion's blessing, plus 1st level Blood Wind (maybe PHII). |

On the other hand, he's a cleric of Torm (FR), and I took second level as a fighter, which gave him martial weapons, including Torm's preferred greatsword. So my cleric can now cleave with his weapon focused greatsword, which makes him a lot more fun in combat. From here out, though, I intend to focus on cleric levels. I've been leaving the Bless behind, for the most part, since it doesn't stack with the bard's singing, but I've been making great use of Magic Weapon. It is certainly a struggle, though, not to end up as the (as you so aptly put it) "heals on wheels". I think I need to learn to make potions as soon as I can... That should take some of the pressure off. In the past, I've played many arcane spell users, and always enjoyed putting creative spell use to work to make seemingly benign spells very useful. So far, I haven't come up with much for the divine spells, though, which is why I came seeking aid here. My thanks to all who have offered advice thus far! [BTW, I'm pretty much limited to the core books for spells, feats, etc.] |

You can cause it to appear directly over the fire elemental's head. Technically, there's nothing in the rules that says this would deal xdy damage to the elemental, but it should certainly give the DM a good lengthy pause, and he might just rule in your favor. |

Good advice on "Make Whole" and quicken TheGogmagog. |

Um, I hate to rain on your parade their buddy, but you can't do that... A creature or object brought into being or transported to your location by a conjuration spell cannot appear inside another creature or object, nor can it appear floating in an empty space. It must arrive in an open location on a surface capable of supporting it. The creature or object must appear within the spell’s range, but it does not have to remain within the range. |

That might be the case for creatures or objects, but water doesn't fall into either category. The game doesn't define "object", so we need to use a standard definition. Here's the first one from Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.0.1): ob‧ject –noun 1. anything that is visible or tangible and is relatively stable in form. Liquid water doesn't meet the "relatively stable in form" criterion. This brings us back to the Create Water spell definition:Water can be created in an area as small as will actually contain the liquid, or in an area three times as large—possibly creating a downpour or filling many small receptacles. The reference to "area" rather than "volume" is confusing. But "possibly creating a downpour" is pretty clear. I think Platonix's idea is workable. |
| Skaflock11-09-06, 08:51 AM | So I'm guessing one of your domains is War? What is your other domain? No, I don't think War was one of the options for him. I went with Strength (gotta love that +level to Str once per day!) and Healing. That's why I had to switch to fighter for a level: so I could get the martial weapon proficiency, and then I spent the bonus fighter feat on weapon focus in the greatsword. |
