This just jumped out at me...

From page 158 of the PHB: "Thrown weapons require no weapon proficiency, so you dont take the -4 nonweapon proficiency penalty"

Do you need to be proficient in Bolas to throw them without penalty?!?

It's talking specifically about splash weapons. Basically, any doofus can throw a vial of alchemist's fire at someone's head.

You still need to know how throw a shuriken, bolas, or a knife to do it properly.

You take the -4 non-proficiency penalty when throwing most thrown weapons. Splash weapons are the exception, cause they are very easy to use.

Better wording would have been:

Every creature is proficient with splash weapons.
