| Erhnam198206-21-07, 09:33 AM | Magic spells that increase an ability score specifically say that they don't cause an increase in spells per day. But I wanted to know if items that increase an ability score do (example: Cloak of Charisma +2) increase teh spells per day. Thanks! |
| unundindur06-21-07, 09:36 AM | yes. |
| Evicmar06-21-07, 09:36 AM | yes it does grant additional spells per day so long as the sorc was wearing the cloak all day and night. The spells that grant the benefits have a short duration and can not last though out the rest period for recovering spells. The items always grant the bonus so yes they apply to cast per day and DC for spells. |
| foxtail06-21-07, 09:38 AM | Stat boosting magic items are active all day and night, as opposed to spells that have limited durations; a sorcerer typically wouldn't be able to keep up eagle's splendor long enough to prepare his spells with it in effect, but a cloak of charisma is a different story. So I would say yes. I'm not sure of the official ruling, but every campaign I've been in has used them this way. |
| Selgard06-21-07, 09:44 AM | Just remember that when the item comes off, the extra spell slots go away, and do not return until you rest/meditate/whatever to regain your spells. |
| tui06-21-07, 10:02 AM | Yep. From the FAQ: Do ability enhancing items (such as the headband of intellect, cloak of charisma, and periapt of wisdom) grant bonus spells to the appropriate spellcasters? The spells these items are based on would seem to prohibit it, but the only things specifically addressed in the item descriptions are skill points. Yes, you can get extra bonus spells if you have an item that increases the ability score that governs your spellcasting. To get the extra bonus spells, you must wear the item while resting to regain spells and all through your initial daily preparations for spellcasting. (Even characters who don’t prepare spells need to meditate a little while at the beginning of the day; see Daily Readying of spells under the Sorcerers and bards section of Chapter 10 in the Player’s Handbook.) If you lose the item, you immediately lose the bonus spell slots the item gave you, starting with any uncast spells you have of the appropriate levels. |
| risner06-21-07, 10:29 AM | yes. Yes, just make sure it isn't removed during the day. When you remove the item you lose the spells. Depending on the liberal reading your DM has, you may or may not get them back when you put the item back on. |
