What's your character's background? Do they live in the Underdark or the world above? Do they have any particularly strong beliefs? What's their alignment? What weapons do they use? What sourcebooks do you have?

The shadow smith (tome of magic), though you should've looked into it around lvl 5-6 thats when most prestige classes begin.

How about warmind? You can do some serious damage with that thing. Something like fighter 4/psychic warrior 2/warmind 6 (or 7) could be pretty solid imo. You're tougher than normal, you get some nice free-action powers and some pretty awesome buffs.

Of course, giving some ideas of what books are allowed and something more on your character concept (background, likely role in the group, etc)would be appreciated

In this case, I think the above should do quite well. Use the PW levels for stuff that doesn't augment very well - i.e. skate, grip of iron - and use the Warmind levels for the bread and butter powers or those which you'd like to see a better ML/augment on - Vigor, (offensive or defensive) precognition, animal affinity/lion's charge/concealing amorpha, dimension slide etc. With a few feats, you can be quite hard to put down (deflective armor, shield ward), and with Stand Still (XPH feat, does not require psionics) and being enlarged, you can stop your enemies from reaching the weaker allies.
