| Suin Bahhar03-05-07, 11:04 AM | Anybody know if there are amazons in Toril in canon? Or is the idea of a matriachal society of warrior women who have retarded males a little too cheesy? |
| MerrikCale03-05-07, 11:07 AM | wasn't there something like that on Gold&Glory |
| StarFyre03-05-07, 11:12 AM | I believe maybe in Maztica... Sanjay |
| The_Shaman03-05-07, 11:18 AM | I can see it in Dambrath: the drow influence and the role of the Loviatar priestesses have created a strong matriarchal tradition, and while they have not afaik fought any significant wars, their raids against their neighbors and penchant for piracy are well known (on an almost unrelated note, does anyone feel the CSM prestige class could use some love?). If you accept a mix between "amazons" and magic, of course there's also Rashemen, where there is a clear gender distinction among mages: the men "stay at home" and manufacture magical items, and the women run things and travel around. |
| Bolithio03-05-07, 11:19 AM | Was'nt Catti-brie a amazon? hahahaaha .....................sorry. |
| Faraer03-05-07, 11:57 AM | Cheesy? Good enough for Plato, Herodotus, etc. |
| Stigger03-05-07, 12:02 PM | Were some in the Vilhon Reach actually, on the island of Ixinos, mentioned in 2e at least in the Vilhon Reach sourcebook strangely enough. It should be available for DL on the older edition stuff from WotC if I recall correctly. |
| Khaelieth03-05-07, 02:26 PM | Menzoberranzan, but that might not be exactly what you're after |
| Kelros03-20-07, 04:52 PM | Catti Brie i'm pretty sure is a barbarian from the ten towns, same place as Wulfgar. They were also both adopted kids of Bruenor so it would make sense. The person we should focus on is Drizzt. He's the star of the legacy of the drow right? ( just started following the forgetten realms world) Also I want to knwo more about his father Zaknafien |
| Kelros03-20-07, 04:55 PM | O im srry i didnt read the whole thread. I thought the focus was on catti brie, I didn't realuz amazonians r the topic. I wouldn't reely know about them anyway but I'm pretty sure catti brie is from the ten towns. |

So men are still *big* and physically superior in a sense. But of course, the Wychlaran may wish to change that since they have such a stranglehold on magic! |
| The_Shaman03-21-07, 05:40 PM | That's why I made the clarification that I mean the mages in Rashemen. However, I'm not sure whether women can't be barbarians in the not-so-rare case they're not blessed with the gift of magic. Okay, somebody has to take care of the home, but I doubt a particularly strongly-built Rashemari lass would have a lot of problems. |
| Manshoon03-22-07, 09:40 PM | Hello! There's indeed a place where amazons live. It's called Ixinos and is located near the Vilhon Reach's entry and the Eyes of Silvanus. There is a small write-up of Ixinos in the 2e sourcebook Vilhon Reach and a mercenary band called the She-wolves hails from there, as mentioned in the Gold&Glory source(also 2e). You can download both from wizards: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/files/2/fr_downloads/tsr9520.zip http://www.wizards.com/dnd/files/2/fr_downloads/tsr9373.zip A really great site I found is going into great detail and you may find it here, not all of it is canon, though: http://www.aeolia.net/ixinos/index.htm Have fun. |
