Neely 04-02-07, 04:21 AM	Hiy'all, My question is as the title says: are air elementals (and invisible stalkers) concidered gaseous when facing spells like Wind Wall? The monster entry doesn't specify this nor does the Air subtype definition. Though my logic would say they are. Also, one player at my table reasoned that since Air elementals consist of wind they aren't therefor subject to any Air/Wind spell. So, who can give me clarity about this? ^^

I'd probably come down on the side of your player that they aren't subject to any Air/Wind spells... as to being gaseous, I'd probably say they were only visible because of gases trapped in the force of their body and the motion of their forms causing minute disturbances in the air. I think... kinda tough question really.
Valgard 04-02-07, 09:19 AM	Since elementals are creatures made entirely of one element, then air elementals and any elemental creature made of air (don't know exactly if an invisible stalker is made of air, but surely it is) are made entirely of air... they 'are' air. There's no doubt air is a gas, so an air elemental would have, indeed, a gaseous body. This would be the answer with a scientific justification, but this wouldn't be the first time that D&D rules ignore scientific reasons.
Alediran 04-04-07, 08:11 AM	Creatures native to the Plane of Air are immune to spells originated from the Elemental Plane of Air (Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning, Gust of Wind, etc), therefore you can't disipate them with a Gust of Wind spell.
GothicDan 04-04-07, 10:24 AM	Otherwise, with all of the wind wall-like effects going on on the Elemental Plane of Air, and the lightning bolts, there'd be no Air Elementals left! Another example: if Fire Elementals could be burned by the fire of the Elemental Plane of Fire...... You get the picture. It's explained somewhat in 2E Planescape's "A Guide to the Inner Planes."
Neely 04-04-07, 05:43 PM	Because I couldn't find anything written about it that the elementals are complete immune to spells and effect concerning their element I started to doubt. It's good to see that common sence can still shape clarity in this matter ^^ Thank you for your answers, once again I go to bed more illuminated than the day before :D
