I have the Races of Faerūn supplement, which has a good deal of information concerning the elusive race. However, regarding that it was written with 3.0 rules, and seemingly overpriced at a +3 level adjustment modifier, I was curious if there were any other books, be it supplementals or novels, that covered the race in greater detail, and perhaps even updated to 3.5 rules.

The aril-tel-quessir have been my favorite elven sub-race since my discovery of them back in AD&D with the "Complete Book of Elves," and is the race I prefer to play. However, detailed information regarding them is difficult to come by, and as such, I come here, asking for help.

Thank you.

3ED works just as well with 3.5 rules, so they'll play just as fine.

the +3 LA isn't really overpriced, Per Se, due to how advantagous wings are at low levels. However, if your group doesn't wand the +3 adjustment, often people simply ensure that flying isnt an advantage for the first chunk of the game and don't add the LA untill later levels.

Indeed. In fact, Unearthed Arcana has a good set of optional rules that allow a character to "buy off" his LA as he gains levels. In the case of an avariel, his LA would be reduced when he gains his 9th, 15th, and 18th class levels. If that seems too steep, you could rule that they have a +2 LA so that it gets reduced at his 6th and 9th class levels.

Avariel (and it'd be nice to give the more common name) are overpriced at a +3 LA. At least that's my opinion. We got into a long, drawn out fight in at least one other thread.

The end result is that an elf with the winged template (Savage Species p 137) gets pretty much everything an avariel does, and in some cases does it better (better manueverability) for one less LA. I'd say an LA +2 would definately be a better idea.

I just toss LA out the window, when it is like that. Mostly because I really don't have things that require "flying" Or you could say that there isn't enough room to get over the pit, your wings hit the wall :P

But for things like Rakhasha, the LA either stays, or is reduced

But, then again, I like being able to throw everything and the kitchen sink at my players:angelhide :mage:
