| EvilVegan02-17-07, 01:49 PM | My knowledge of FR is limited to the Azure Bonds and Wyvern Spur series of books, and half of the first book of the time of troubles (Shadowdale?), plus Curse of the Azure bonds, Pool of Darkness, and some of the other SSI/TSR 2nd edition games. I'm joining an upcoming campaign as a 5th level character and I'm slated to be the healer, which isn't much of a surprise (((in the 3 campaigns I'm playing in I have a surgeon (d20), healer-focused shaman (OA/Rokugan), and an artificer (who mostly heals/buffs, just retired). My previous long-campaign character was also a cleric/rsop.))) I think I want to be a skillful guy who can heal but not necessarily the "healer" archetype I've been doing. I'm thinking half-elf Bard who worships Sune. BUT I'm not that familiar with FR; the regional feats, the PRCs, etc. I was wondering if anyone here had any knowledge of good PrCs / feat combinations that a bard can pull off while staying true to the focus on beauty? |

Most of the PrC are focused on clerics rather than bards for Sune with her Heartwardens in Faith and Pantheons (It is still possible, but you will have to multiclass as a Cleric or divine spellcaster as 3rd level divine spells are needed and the cleric is the easiest. You could be a Arcane Devotee (PGtF s above) but it is a generic arcane worshippers PrC that gives relgions themed benefits like protection from divine/outsider spells, increase healing for yourself and a sheild who's appearance changes do to your diety's taste. I would go for the heartwarden and gain a couple of levels in Cleric to accent it. Note: Arcane Devotee has five levels, while Heartwardens have ten. Edit: For a quick note, Spell Thematics allows you to alter the appearance of all of your spells to fit a theme. (like sphere: Magic Missles would be glowing balls, summon spells would cause creatures to appear from rainbow spheres like pokemon) It makes it harder for Arcane spellcasters to figure out your spells, but increases some of your spells per level. It is open to arcane spellcasters level one. You could choose an image linked to beauty like Fey (Beautiful nymph's whisper your bard's geas to other characters) or nudes. Or you could use my joke to Ed Greenwood and create a stripper (Perform (Dancing-- Erotic)) who has magical strip teases. Male or female stripper, it is up to you. Plus it works with the rules of the game. |
| EvilVegan02-17-07, 02:55 PM | Strippers eh? My wife wouldn't go for it. . . :D Thanks for the suggestions! I had heartwarden in mind but couldn't remember the name of it, what are the prerequisites? Also I noticed that one of the Domains offered by Lathandar gave the close equivalent of inspire courage , does Sune have access to that? |

Also I noticed that one of the Domains offered by Lathandar gave the close equivalent of inspire courage , does Sune have access to that? She has Chaos (+1 Chaos spells), Charm (one minute boost to Charisma by 2 bonus points per day), Good (+1 caster level to good spells) and Protection (not sure but it is some kind of ward). Heartwarder: Alignment: CG Base save bonus: Ref +2 Skills: Bluff 3, Diplomacy 6, Speak Language (Sylvan) Feats: Dodge, Mobility, Spell Focus (Enchantment), Exotic weapon Proficiency (whip) Spell: ability to cast 3rd level divine spells Patron:Sune |
| The_Shaman02-17-07, 04:19 PM | I think there were some bardic variants in UA/SRD with changed spell lists. How about you go for the one with cleric spellcasting? No one says song magic can't come from the gods. Note: in fact, unless it was errata'd, don't change anything. A heartwarden needs to be able to cast 3rd level spells, period (p. 196, F&P). Since it's Sune we're talking about, and she's big on bards, I think that even if it's a typo it's a well-meaning one. Failing that, a bard in her service might just get to enter the Troubadour of Stars exalted PrC... In the FR, it would probably be affiliated with Sune or a similar deity (Hanali Celanil, most likely) anyway. |
| EvilVegan02-19-07, 12:12 PM | Thanks guys! Those domains are horrible! Those prerequisites make the character have to be lame for very little benefit! Maybe human or half-elf cleric 5/bard 1 would work? It's horribly sub-optimal, but less so than a bard 7 and that's a houseruling. Also Cleric 6 would work, but I'd have to be human and use all of my feats to get into the class, and I don't remember it being THAT good. I've noticed the FR PrCs are extremely limited in feat selection. If it has full caster progression I could see taking it . . . maybe. If not a straight cleric or bard is going to be better anyway. The Lathandar PrCs were pretty good though, and seem to be the basis for RSoP. |

The Lathandar PrCs were pretty good though, and seem to be the basis for RSoP. Well, I didn't type in the spells. Charm tends to have many charm spells, Geas/Quest and suggestion. The heartwarder has: * a odd level regular Charisma boost, * an plus two bonus to all Charisma checks, * a +2 bonus to all attack/damage/skill/ability checks plus elimination of all fatigue/exhastion problems plus plus two on saves vers enchantment which has a side effect of a daze spell (can roll for save) after the five rounds it last confered to subject by kiss a number of time equal to charisma bonus * Greater Spell focus (enchantment) and spell pentration for all verbal component spells (Like most of the charm domain) * Tears that can be collected to make a philter of love which also acts as holy water (One per tenday no gp cost and 6 XP cost) * Turn into a fey But you can also try other goddesses of beauty like Hanali Celanil and Eilistraee. Or you could create your own PrC or look for one on these forums. Perhaps even givin a bonus domain of your choice into it or creating your own like the Beauty Domain if you can find the spells and granted effect if it was right. I hope I am helping. |
| EvilVegan02-19-07, 02:34 PM | You are! I really need to get my hands on the books again, they're at my friend's house (since they belong to him). . . |
| Faraer02-19-07, 02:55 PM | I was wondering if anyone here had any knowledge of good PrCs / feat combinations that a bard can pull off while staying true to the focus on beauty? You're going at this backwards. Come up with the character, then see if it's necessary to use special rules bits to represent it. A good next step would be to read the Sune writeup in Faiths & Avatars (http://paizo.com/store/brand/forgottenRealms/roleplayingGames/2ndEdition/v5748btpy7mkq). Then work with your DM to consider where the character might have been born, how he or she was brought up, and so on. |
| EvilVegan02-19-07, 03:19 PM | 4$ for a 2nd edition PDF! sweet. I think I may still have the book somewhere. I've still got my 1st edition forgotten realms campaign book (and dragonlance and greyhawk). Anyway it was more a request for PrCs that were already created to fit with the campaign world than trying to come up with a character build. I like being able to function as a character while remaining true to the concept in mind, not force my concept to override an easily viable character. |
| EvilVegan02-23-07, 11:17 AM | And I've decided to play a favored soul/heartwarden. (mostly) Charisma-based spontaneous casting divine character, plus I get weapon focus/proficiency (whip) for free! All the downsides of favored soul are disappointing, but its flavorful! Flavored soul. |
| EvilVegan02-23-07, 05:43 PM | And after looking even further I've decided that heartwarden is a terrible PrC. |
