Blighter existence in Toril? [Archive] - Wizards Community

On beggining - I'm sorry for any bad-english if happens (and I'm sure it will)

Well, I'm wondering how about existence of Blighter in Faerun. I will copy description of this prestigue class from Complete Divine.

What puts them over the edge is the knowledge that nature gets the last laugh: To gain their spells, they must seek out the richest forests of the land, even if it's only to destroy them. Thus, even though they've turned away from nature, they must constantly return to it.

Nature - ok. Nature is a elemental force in D&D, but in Faerun, even druids are priests of nature deites and the only divine power comes from gods. Even if Blighter power-taking is understood in Greyhawk or Planescape, in Forgotten Realms he definetely couldn't take any spells from Desforestating forests. Am I wrong?

If I'm wrong I have question - how power Blighters have power in Faerun (Abeir-Toril exacly)?

03-29-07, 09:49 AM You are correct. In FR, no divinity means no divine magic. So these guys will need to pray to some God or another to get spells.

03-29-07, 10:18 AM So... is any chance that Blighter will divine another god of er... destruction? Or some enemy of nature? And he will get blighter's powers from this title?

03-29-07, 10:39 AM The most thematically appropriate deity is probably Talona, goddess of poison and disease. She already has the Talonan Blightbearer (Unapproachable East), which is similar in idea to the Blighter and also begins as a druid.

Another possibility is Talos, the god of primal destruction. A very "bad side of nature" god.

Depending on the on the type of charicter you have, Moandar.
Sure, Moandar is dead, but Lolth has been granting spells in his name.
This would be a great time on Faerun for Moandar cultists, with his recent silence and recent returning must be a signal that this is the time to move.

Despite my fondness for Moandar, Talona seems like a more organic fit. :)

03-29-07, 11:19 AM Oooh, I hadn't even considered Moander. That is a good idea too. Take the Servant of the Fallen feat (Lost Empires of Faerun).

If answer means yes, there is no problem in playing Blighter in FR :)

Indeed, Talona can and will grants some her powers to Blighter (even if Blighter do not worship Talona directly). He just... deforestate... and there's another question: May any god give powers to mortal, who doesn't directly worship this deity?

Anyone can worship any deity. The question of whether that deity will grant them spells depends on the deity in question. Obviously, they need to follow a deity that will agree with their principles for that.

May any god give powers to mortal, who doesn't directly worship this deity?
Can they? Sure. But generally speaking, unless they have an unusual interest in the mortal in question, they don't do so for long, since its not in their best interest to grant part of their power to someone who isn't giving them power via worship.

Well... I made neutral evil 6-level druid, of Malar who slowly hates his "church" of Malar and stupid nature-fights beyond Malar cultists and Black Blood Cult etc. In the end of my character history I placed him in magical forest where he was find by beatiful nymph. He of course fall into love in her... but you know how nyphs are. After short romance in night, she fast dissappeared and broken his wild, animal heart (so so, he is Malar worshiper at last). And now he is ex-druid, who fall into vengence and some like chaotic evil - neutran evil and he just want destroy nature as blighter.
I can add that think: Someone like Talona's priest offered my ex-druid worship to his godness of decay.

I see that Blighters aren't atheists. :)

BTW - in my opinion, they have small spell list :/
