| Valgard05-26-07, 12:09 PM | One of my players wants to make a new character and he's looking for a trapfinder with a decent skill in combat. If the character has a build with material from FR sources the better. The actual group consists of a pair of brothers, one sorcerer and the other wizard, a dwarven defender acting as 'bodyguard' of the wizard, an Order of the Bow initiate friend of the sorcerer, and a harper priest they recruited after they began. The campaign makes them run across all northen Faerūn looking for cultists of Orcus. He already used an assassin and that's not the type of character he wants to run. My first suggestion was to make him a multiclass rogue-fighter, but then I realized in the 'multiclass feats' from Complete Adventurer and Complete Scoundrel, so maybe a multiclass swashbuckler-rogue with the Daring Outlaw feat from CS may be a good option, as the swashbuckler class seems to be not very powerful at higher levels. Concerning prestige classes, I haven't seen many ones that fit what he's looking for. I suggested him the Tempest (CAdv) and Invisible Blade (CW) but he's not sure. I also thought, a posteriori, about the Ghost-Faced Killer (CAdv) but that's a more martial assassin, maybe that's not what he's looking for. Any more suggestions? |

Another nifty way is to go for something a little more exotic, like the invisible blade, and possibly master thrower. For base classes, fighter 4 / rogue 4 is one of the simpler buids, swashbuckler 3 (or 5, with TWF and the PHBII variant)/rogue 4, or possibly even some ranger. I consider rogue 4 a good drop-off point if you do not want to keep with rogue, because it costs only 1 BAB, gives you +2d6 SA damage, and uncanny dodge. Scarlet Corsair (Stormwrack, sneak attack and something like the IB feint) can also be worth it, for a more "Yarrr" experience. Also, consider the telling blow feat. Unless your weapon only crits on a 20, it can lead to some serious damage every now and then even in a "straight" fight. |
