Hail, and well met!

I am currently creating a character for a game my SO will be running soon. She's an FR fan. I'm more into Eberron. (Ducks fireballs.) However, she allows virtually any class/race combo one can think of. (No matter how stretched the believability...) So here's what I'm thinking:

Teht Female changeling rogue, level 4 (starting level for game) using the changeling rogue substitution levels presented in Races of Eberron. Region of origin: Thay. I'm running her as a triple agent -- a Thayan spy whose infiltrated the Zhentarim, and has been assigned by no lesser person than Fzoul himself to infiltrate that "meddlesome bastion of hope and hero worship by foolish commoners", the Harpers. The rest of the players (with one exception) are ignorant of my character's true nature; I'll be playing her multiple personae as though I'm co-DMing. (Which I do anyway; six players are a handfull!)

Small things for which I need help: Quick sketches for various "walk-on roles" Teht can play at various intervals.
Back-story ideas on how Teht managed to infiltrat the Zhentarim. Particularly key given that the Black Network is on something of a "hiring freeze", right now. ;-)

Additionally, where in the Realms might one find changelings? In other words, are there any known doppleganger communities of size enough to create a changeling half-caste? Or is it more likely that Teht is an orphan, cast away by one or both of the parents (human or doppleganger) when her nature was discovered (making her something of a curiosity)?

Heya,

I think this is overly complicated, but hey, it's your character. :)

More information on what exactly you're after for the former might be a help.

On the latter - maybe she killed and took the place of an already existent Zhent agent? Preferably one who doesn't actually live in Zhentil Keep, and one that people may not have seen for a while - so any flaws in her appearance won't be as noticeable (changelings aren't dopplegangers, so they can't be perfect at assuming the forms of others. ;))

Waterdeep, no doubt about it. Waterdeep is probably doppleganger central of the Realms. There are probably other places too, but that's the first one that springs to mind.

Oh yeah, and something else to remember... Changelings aren't necessarily half doppleganger. They are a breed of their own and can breed true, IIRC.

Possibly Silverymoon as well, given a certain persons hinted at relationship with a certain doppleganger...

Heya,

Possibly Silverymoon as well, given a certain persons hinted at relationship with a certain doppleganger...

Phlynk is rather unusual for a Doppleganger, though. I believe it has a decidedly more neutral or even good bent than most other Dopplegangers. :)

Changelings would only spring up in areas that had a decent Doppleganger population, which Waterdeep has had for years. Phlynk, on the other hand, is just one Doppleganger... and nothing has ever been mentioned of a significant population of Dopplegangers in Silverymoon.

Probably isn't one with the Mythal, but given Alustriel's track record with a certain elf, I don't think it's too much of a stretch to say there could be more than one half-doppleganger running around. ;)

It isn't a stretch to say that she and Phlynk are/have been lovers, but according to Ed (and therefore canon), all of Alustriel's children share the same elven father. (Of course, that's not true of my Realms - the daughter of Alustriel and Tymora is running around there somewhere... ;))

Did he say that? Feh, so not paying attention to that one...

Why? (I'm just curious here, even I haven't stuck to it myself as I mentioned.)

Going by everything we know about the Chosen of Mystra, they can't have children without Mystra's divine blessings. She's pretty much their contraception. ;) Even if that were not the case, I'd imagine that with Alustriel's free wheeling attitude towards love, she's smart enough to be careful... Whether by spell or herb (either/both providing 100% protection in the Realms), she would make sure she only had children when she wanted to have them. Given all that, it is largely DM fiat that allows the Chosen to have children at all, and that means we're free to make up stuff ourselves... ;)

If it is by spell and Mystra wanted her to have children then I think it wouldn't work :D

Doppelgangers are hermaphroditic. And really bad parents with no real love for their offspring. I take most leave their halfbreed offspring as orphans as soon as their interest for the toddler falls away (after 2 months or so). Humans would treat their toddlers normal and maybe freak out when the child first steals its foster parents face.

In every large community with dopplegangers in it (Waterdeep, Westgate, Zhentil Keep, Cimbar) I'd drop a small percentage of its orphans as changelings or even full dopplegangers. The parent dopplegangers go ahead their business and leave the poor foster parents untill they claim back their full grown progeny. This give the child its first clue that its nightmarish dreams of face melting were very real. This trauma could drive them insane.

Really nice RP-potential here. I'm dropping this into a campaign of mine for sure. A young & beautiful changeling daughter to be wed (which could get the family great fortunes) dissapears at the night after her fosterbrothers are found dead in their rooms covered in blood. (the "mother" doppleganger's spy guild reclaimed her daughter)

Mostly because I'd have to delete at least three NPCs from my campaign, and as two of those NPCs are married to retired PCs, I'd probably get lynched as the players are very attached to those characters and wouldn't take kindly to me taking away their squishies... and as I have no real interest in inviting a beating to my doorstep as it were... :D

I can understand that. :) Especially since I have at least one NPC of my own with that kind of origin, who actually started out life as my PC. :) (We like playing games that end up being over the top power wise, and I definitely like interacting the the same NPCs that other people seem to think overshadow their games... interesting that...)

Power-Gamer... :P

:D

Think we had this discussion once before actually... and I probably said it then that I'm largely of the same mindset. ;)
