| WinterPsionic03-09-07, 12:54 PM | Are there any specifically? I've looked around some but couldn't find any, the closest I could think is a Ceric of Eilistraee with the associated domains for her. |
| Bluenose03-09-07, 01:09 PM | Are there any specifically? I've looked around some but couldn't find any, the closest I could think is a Ceric of Eilistraee with the associated domains for her. There's the Sword Dancer Prestige Class in Faiths and Pantheons. Darksong Knights, who appear in Chapions of Valour - it's a substitution level for fighters. The Silverhair Knight prestige class appeared in an issue of Dragon magazine - I'd have to check the number but it was 310-320. |
| Mad Mage03-09-07, 01:37 PM | The Silverhair Knight prestige class appeared in an issue of Dragon magazine - I'd have to check the number but it was 310-320. Issue 315. As far as core classes, I'd suggest these, including those mentioned so far. - Cleric - Fighter - Bard - Ranger I don't know if Wizards or Sorcerers are present. They might be in some cases, but you never know. :thinks: As far as Prestige Classes, yes, the ones Bluenose mentions are definite choices. I'd also see these. - Divine Champion - Divine Disciple - Spelldancer (Magic of Faerun) |
| Lord Karsus03-09-07, 02:29 PM | I don't know if Wizards or Sorcerers are present. They might be in some cases, but you never know. :thinks: -Demihuman Deities states that 1% of her total clergy consists of mystics (Wizards and Sorcerers). |
| WinterPsionic03-09-07, 02:31 PM | Hmmm ok this is certainly a start, they don't have to be core/base(preferably I'm lookin for PrCs). I have a Half Drow SoulKnife that was.... "forced" to Worship Eillistraee and w/o realizing it I was playing to it perfectly so I want to see if I can expand on it at all. |
| saucercrab03-10-07, 03:33 PM | -Demihuman Deities states that 1% of her total clergy consists of mystics (Wizards and Sorcerers). In 2e, the mystic was a priest sub-class (divine spellcaster). Faiths & Avatars details it. Bluenose, Silverhair knight is in #315. |
| Lord Karsus03-10-07, 06:58 PM | In 2e, the mystic was a priest sub-class (divine spellcaster). Faiths & Avatars details it. Bluenose, Silverhair knight is in #315. -Oh well. I was picturing mystics as aged arcane spellcasters. |
| The_Shaman03-10-07, 07:29 PM | If you have ToB, she might be quite interested in Warblades and especially swordsages. |
| Bluenose03-12-07, 11:49 AM | Issue 315 Thanks, and to Saucercrab too :) If I wasn't already committed to something else I might try the class myself - it looks quite interesting. :) |
| Treymordin03-13-07, 03:03 PM | I dont see why she wouldnt have wizards or sorcerers or even bards among her worshippers, she is a goddess of elves after all. In 2nd edition I think her speciality priests use to be able to cast magic missles. |
| WinterPsionic03-13-07, 06:59 PM | Maybe I should reword my request, what class/classes would make me MOST LIKE the attractive lady godess herself? Something with flavor yet similiarities to her. |
| Alac Luin03-13-07, 09:26 PM | Maybe I should reword my request, what class/classes would make me MOST LIKE the attractive lady godess herself? Something with flavor yet similiarities to her. Multi class - Bard/Sorc/cleric/ranger In 2ed the goddess's avatar was fighter 9, priest 11, bard 10 in F&P she is bard 20, fighter15, cleric 5 I gave the list above as she was a known archer/hunter (ranger not fighter), Bard as she luves her music, Cleric well just becouse and Sorc for her ties to magic. If that is to many classes, bard/ranger or bard/cleric. When I upgraded my 2ed specialty priest of Elli, I made her a cleric/sorc/mystic wanderer to me this fit her old abilities and dogma well. |
| The_Shaman03-13-07, 10:06 PM | Mystic wanderer sounds like her thing, afaik she was never much for heavy armor :) . One build might be a bit too thin if you'd cover all her aspects, though. As the bladedancer, for example, she may be a fighter/bard/dervish or a fighter/swordsage/dervish (with up to 2 levels of fighter, of course). As a hunting deity she might be a ranger/scout, and any cleric with MW levels gets points for style. |
| Treymordin03-14-07, 10:34 AM | Those all sound like great ideas for the Dancing Lady! |
| Mad Mage03-14-07, 12:48 PM | You also might want to consider a Cleric/Spelldancer. She's big on dancing, so why not? ;) |
| Dirty Dan the Laundry Man03-14-07, 04:15 PM | The UA book's Divine Bard is perfectly tailor-made core class for Eilistraee. What better way for a character to show his/her pious devotion to the female Drowess than to be both a dancing bard *AND* a significant divine spellcaster (albeit a secondary one). |
| Treymordin03-14-07, 08:38 PM | I think that she is a great goddess. Is she unique to the Realms? |
| WinterPsionic03-14-07, 09:51 PM | I think that she is a great goddess. Is she unique to the Realms? Last time I checked, yes, I'm also not aware of any "counterparts" so to speak in other worlds. |
| Critalondel03-15-07, 06:32 AM | I think that she is a great goddess. Is she unique to the Realms? I'm pretty sure she is, yeah. The Realms are just about the only setting to go into much depth and detail on Dark Elf culture, though, so it just kind of makes sense. |
| Lord Karsus03-15-07, 09:25 AM | I think that she is a great goddess. Is she unique to the Realms? -Yes, though other non-FR sources may mention a daughter of Lolth. As far as I can remember currently, Eilistraee, Vhaeraun, Kiaransalee and Ghaunadaur are all unique to the Realms, and are not mentioned in other sources save Planescape. Not, however, that Ghaunadaur is the Elder Elemental deity in other settings, and Kiaransalee took Orcus' place for a while. |
| Mad Mage03-15-07, 12:21 PM | -Yes, though other non-FR sources may mention a daughter of Lolth. Not, however, that Ghaunadaur is the Elder Elemental deity in other settings, and Kiaransalee took Orcus' place for a while. The 2nd Edition core product Monster Mythology does have Lolth, Vhaerun, Kiaransalee and Zinzerena. The differences, though, are these. 1) Lolth is depicted as actually being a demon from the start, and being a hint more caring of Drow wellfare than in the Realms. Her former identity of Aurunshee is technically unique to the Forgotten Realms. 2) As mentioned Kiaransalee had done nothing towards Orcus like her Realms incarnation. 3) Vhaerun is not mentioned as being the offspring of Lloth and Correlon Larethian, as mentioned above about Lloth. 4) Zinzerena is not dead in Monster Mythology, and she is her own person (deity, actually) in this book. Ellestraee is defnitely unique to the Realms, by the looks of this book. |
| rolig03-15-07, 05:12 PM | Id also se Rouge and Dervish as good elistraee classes Dervish/fighter combo perhaps with a bit help from that class in champions of valor... |
| Treymordin03-15-07, 06:58 PM | I think that she need to stay there, LOL. We dont need the cheesiness of good drow infecting the rest of the multiverse. :) |
| The Ubbergeek03-16-07, 11:16 AM | I think that she need to stay there, LOL. We dont need the cheesiness of good drow infecting the rest of the multiverse. :) Don't hate the brothers and sisters who fight The Woman, guy. ;) :P She want to return the drow who listen to a life more fiting to what they where before the ex from hell brought them down, it's cool. ;) :P Good drows are still cool... well done. |
| Treymordin03-16-07, 04:50 PM | They are cheesy and lame. |
| Lord Karsus03-16-07, 05:17 PM | They are cheesy and lame. -It is impossible for all Drow- a race that is not inherently born evil, but instead becomes evil due to societal pressures- to all be evil. |
| Tevin Kevlak03-16-07, 05:23 PM | I'd also like to throw the Duskblade out there for possible classes for a worshipper of Elistraee. It combines swordplay and magic into one class which, in my mind, fits quite nicely even though the Duskblade focuses on destructive magics which may not seem all that in line with Elistraee. |
| The_Shaman03-16-07, 09:53 PM | I'm not really keen on Eilistraee's champions wielding arcane magic, to be honest. If they did, something similar to the bard or less obtrusive might be more their thing. I have this strange notion that for all the quiet, humble stuff E's worshippers may have, there's something vaguely disturbing about that cult. She's a hunt deity and the hunt is one of the major ceremonies of her faith. I can't help but think that angering her disciples might trigger the kind of wild, hopeless chase that one can only otherwise get by deciding to play tag with angry werewolves. Furthermore, due to the relative serenity of her worshippers, you will never see it coming. So yes, behind the dancing and prancing crap there's a deity that has priests that can show the bladesingers a thing or two about fighting; moreover - whose worshippers are the kind of relentless pursuers that will hunt you to the ground, even if they have to run through half the world to do it. The best part - they are uncannily calm and composed all the while. To me, that is more unnerving than any fit of rage a Yathrine of Lloth can throw. So, I prefer to see the cult of the Dark Maiden in a slightly different light - they can inspire just as much dread as any other drow... when they feel like it. |
| Alac Luin03-16-07, 10:32 PM | I'm not really keen on Eilistraee's champions wielding arcane magic, to be honest. If they did, something similar to the bard or less obtrusive might be more their thing. I agree with this also. I did mention her "ties to magic" earlier. These are minor ties, more implied then explicit. Eli would look more favorablely on one who weilds a broadsword then one who weilds a fireball. The reason I added sorc levels to my 2ed to 3.X convertion was only to keep the magic missle the specialty priests had. If the 2ed Specialty Priest is not an issue, Bard is a wonderful class. Since in older lore there was a mandate... "Priestesses must be skilled in the playing of at least one of the Dark Maidens favored instruments horn, flute, or harp." This I think is nice little flavor thing that gave depth to the deity that is missing in the curent edition. |
| WinterPsionic03-16-07, 11:26 PM | Hmmm well it looks like I'll be Epic before I can hope to achieve any sort of balanced realization....maybe it'll be a goal for this characters offspring as the DM's hinted at running a generations campaign and my character is rather far off the normal reserve. |
| Treymordin03-17-07, 11:48 AM | -It is impossible for all Drow- a race that is not inherently born evil, but instead becomes evil due to societal pressures- to all be evil. Dude, read the article on the Drow that came out a few years ago in Dragon magazine and you might change your mind about that. |
| The_Shaman03-17-07, 12:16 PM | Which Dragon issue would that be? I regard the drow evil in a somewhat similar vein to the orc one. They don't have to be evil just as every other non-outsider race doesn't have to be evil, but those that aren't are, to say the least, an endangered species. |
| Tevin Kevlak03-17-07, 02:14 PM | I figured that the Duskblade was a good choice because it combines two things common with followers of Elistraee: sword play and arcane magic. I do believe that followers of Elistraee would weild magic as the favored classes for Drow are Cleric (female) and Wizard (male). And being the patron god of good aligned surface Drow it doesn't seem to be out of line to assume that there would be at least a few wizards if not duskblades amongst her followers. |
| AbyssKnight03-17-07, 05:56 PM | I could see a build like.... Ranger 9/Druid 1/Bard 2/Fochlucan Lyrist 8 ....working as a follower of Eli. It has dancing, music, divine casting, and decent swordmanship. |
| Wire03-17-07, 06:07 PM | The UA book's Divine Bard is perfectly tailor-made core class for Eilistraee. What better way for a character to show his/her pious devotion to the female Drowess than to be both a dancing bard *AND* a significant divine spellcaster (albeit a secondary one).Dan's suggestion is the best one so far. You get the best of all Eilistraee's schticks with a divine bard And you can do all this with effectiveness from levels 1 through 20 |
| Alac Luin03-17-07, 10:25 PM | Dude, read the article on the Drow that came out a few years ago in Dragon magazine and you might change your mind about that. That article was about Greyhawk drow. It has little to do with the Realms. To help show this, that article says drow are never born as twins. We have had twin drow in established lore for the Realms. |
| Treymordin03-18-07, 09:45 AM | So the Realms only takes what it wants in a general article? How convienant. |
| GothicDan03-18-07, 12:36 PM | No. It doesn't take anything unless it says it specifically applies to the Realms. |
| johnkretzer03-18-07, 12:56 PM | The reason I added sorc levels to my 2ed to 3.X convertion was only to keep the magic missle the specialty priests had. In the Champions of Valor the feat Initiate of Elistraee you get the ability to use a magic missile in place of one of your racial spell-like abilities. I know this book wasn't out when you converted the character...but you don't need to take sorcerer level to get the magic missiles back. My priestess of Elistraee looked like this...Bard1/Ranger1/Fighter2/Cleric6/Sword Dancer10. But alot of that was in reaction to or before the Faiths and Pantheon book came out with the PrC Sword Dancer. For instance I proably wouldn't have had the Bard or Ranger level as I pretty much took them to gain skills in areas a priestess of Elistraee should have. |
| Zanan03-18-07, 01:59 PM | @john kretzer ... one would guess that the scout class of Complete Adventurer would have saved you quite some trouble. ;) |
| Alac Luin03-18-07, 09:09 PM | So the Realms only takes what it wants in a general article? How convienant. It's more that that article was writen without takeing into acount existing lore that has a firm hold in a campain setting. Since this article did not take the Realms into account, it does not apply. So, it was in Dragon. So are articles about the "core" deities like Hextor and the bunch. That does not meen Hextor has a thriveing clergy on Faerun. |
| johnkretzer03-18-07, 09:12 PM | @john kretzer ... one would guess that the scout class of Complete Adventurer would have saved you quite some trouble. ;) Yes that would have been nice. Or atleast just the sword dancer PrC...I could have sweated out those levels buying them cross class till I could enter the class. But hey the character was interesting to play even with those 'wasted' levels. |
| Treymordin03-19-07, 01:36 AM | It's more that that article was writen without takeing into acount existing lore that has a firm hold in a campain setting. Since this article did not take the Realms into account, it does not apply. So, it was in Dragon. So are articles about the "core" deities like Hextor and the bunch. That does not meen Hextor has a thriveing clergy on Faerun. Whatever. What about when the articles will be about the demi-human races? |
| Lord Karsus03-19-07, 05:15 PM | Whatever. What about when the articles will be about the demi-human races? -The same idea applies. Everything in DRAGON magazine is geared towards Core D&D/Greyhawk. Unless something says this is specifically for the Realms, or specifically for Eberron, then it does not officially apply to those two settings, and any others not mentioned. That's why in a lot of the newer D&D sourcebooks there are boxes like, "In the Forgotten Realms...", or "In Eberron...". |
| Alac Luin03-19-07, 05:48 PM | If we follow the "core" ideas of the demi-human races presented in Dragon or even the MM, many aspects of the Realms would disappear. One example, half-elves. One long standing aspect of "core" half-elves is they have not created any societies of thier own. In the Realms, there are Half-Elf societies that have existed for hundreds of years. This is only one example. |
| GothicDan03-20-07, 07:12 PM | Treymordin, you seem to have a particularly bitter 'tone' to your words... Is there a reason you don't like material suited to a setting superceding generic material? |
| Critalondel03-20-07, 10:31 PM | They are cheesy and lame. Innately, good Drow aren't any more cheesy and lame than evil surface Elves, evil standard-metarace Dwarves, or any other "I've just got to be special" character someone makes that goes wildly against the grain of their race's innate (arguably genetic/magical) alignment tendency. The problem is that, thanks to You-Know-Who'urden, there are a freaking ton of CG Drow Rangers running around stinking the place up. I really dig how there's actually an evil Drow Ranger, a Menzo spy stomping around The North, pretending to be inspired by Drizzt and his heroic exploits (and leeching off his reputation). It's like WotC are poking a little fun at themselves, and the fanboys, all at once. |
| The Ranger03-21-07, 12:44 AM | If you're looking for a good arcane caster for a good drow, I suggest the malconvoker from Complete Scoundrel. I've got one as an NPC in my campaign. Imagine the heroes surprise when the demon-summoning drow turned out to be a good guy. |
| Treymordin03-21-07, 01:36 AM | Treymordin, you seem to have a particularly bitter 'tone' to your words... Is there a reason you don't like material suited to a setting superceding generic material? I just find it very conveinant that things that people like they go with and those they do not they discard. |
| Lord Karsus03-21-07, 09:19 AM | I just find it very conveinant that things that people like they go with and those they do not they discard. -That's a personal choice, to use Core/Grayhawk stuff for the Realms. It has always been the way we described above, officially. That is what makes the Realms unique from Grayhawk, Eberron, Dragonlance, Mystara, and so on. And, of course, all of the other settings have the same policy. That way, there aren't Purple Dragon Knights in Eberron, Warforged Artificers in Grayhawk, and Clerics of Vecna in the Realms. There were some ways to get around around that in the past (Spelljamming, Planewalking), but the those ideas have really fallen out of favor in 3e D&D. |
| BrennonGoldeye03-21-07, 09:53 AM | I just find it very conveinant that things that people like they go with and those they do not they discard. That's the whole point. Your Realms is your Realms. As much as some hate it, the point is the fun of playing the game. -There were some ways to get around around that in the past (Spelljamming, Planewalking), but the those ideas have really fallen out of favor in 3e D&D. Yes, out of favor. As stated above, to each his own.;) |
| Treymordin03-22-07, 09:15 AM | Skeef. |
| Lord Karsus03-22-07, 09:30 AM | Skeef. -I don't even know what that means, but I feel that it is my duty to contest it. :P |
| Faraer03-22-07, 06:27 PM | I just find it very conveinant that things that people like they go with and those they do not they discard.Crazy, isn't it? I discard things I like and use things I don't, myself. |
| The Ubbergeek03-22-07, 10:21 PM | Drow are mortals, drow are 'humane'; They are no outsiders. They are not evil at birth, and can change. Or at least it's how I saw it. Only, the cultures of such races tend to brainwash, overbears, manipulate, corrupt, etc (choose what you see fit) inviduals to comform, or...... You see the point. And really, the 'evil at birth' thing is even worse.. And note an interesting detail; Do'Urden do NOT worship her. At all. I am not sure he even heard of her..... He worship Mielliki. |
| Lord Karsus03-22-07, 11:27 PM | And note an interesting detail; Do'Urden do NOT worship her. At all. I am not sure he even heard of her..... He worship Mielliki. -No, he does not worship Lolth, but of course Drizzt has heard of her. It's hard not to hear of a particular deity in a city ruled by his/her conservative/orthodox clergy. Drizzt has actually met her, though he was not aware of it, at the time. Read the story in Realms of the Underdark about the Dagger of Menzobera. |
| Critalondel03-23-07, 02:14 AM | -No, he does not worship Lolth, but of course Drizzt has heard of her. It's hard not to hear of a particular deity in a city ruled by his/her conservative/orthodox clergy. Drizzt has actually met her, though he was not aware of it, at the time. Read the story in Realms of the Underdark about the Dagger of Menzobera. I think maybe he meant Eilistraee, when he said Drizzt doesn't worship "her." Which always struck me as a little odd, since the two seem to be a perfect match. He's a CG Drow, a Ranger, on the surface, who's unarguably into swordplay. She's a CG goddess of Drow on the surface, with swordplay as part of her portfolio (and sacred hunts as a big chunk of how she's worshiped). Toss in a little bit here and there about Drizzt liking music and dance a little more, and it seems like he could be a Chosen or something in no time. :) I'm not sure, but maybe Mielikki was just about the only choice for Rangers back 20-some-odd years ago when the Crystal Shard was first written? |
| Lord Karsus03-23-07, 10:11 AM | I think maybe he meant Eilistraee, when he said Drizzt doesn't worship "her." -Good point. I don't even know why I was thinking of Lolth, actually. A big misunderstanding... -Mielikki wasn't the only patron Drizzt could have chosen, but "worshiping" her (and I put that in quotations, because we see how often Drizzt actually mentions her, let alone really prays to her) is sort of symbolic for him, I think. Mielikki has come to represent, to Drizzt, his old pal, Mooshie, and coming to the Surface world. So, I think, it's not so much as what she actually represents than what she means to him. |
| Alac Luin03-23-07, 06:23 PM | I'm not sure, but maybe Mielikki was just about the only choice for Rangers back 20-some-odd years ago when the Crystal Shard was first written? Not the only one, there was even a reference that drizzt worshiped a different deity. Someone referred to Drizzit as "trained as a Ranger of Gwaeron Windstrom" Granted, Gwaeron is intimately tied to Mielikki, but it is another deity. |
| Treymordin03-23-07, 08:24 PM | Driz'zt grew up in a society dominated by the Demon Queen of Spiders. His mother and his sisters all worshipped her. Of course he has heard of her. |
| BrennonGoldeye03-23-07, 09:08 PM | Driz'zt grew up in a society dominated by the Demon Queen of Spiders. His mother and his sisters all worshipped her. Of course he has heard of her. So Uber got a little confused for a sec. :thinks: LK, I do believe that when speaking kobold Skeef means Whatever.... |
| Treymordin03-23-07, 09:21 PM | Skeef is not kobold. |
| The Ubbergeek03-23-07, 09:24 PM | So Uber got a little confused for a sec. :thinks: LK, I do believe that when speaking kobold Skeef means Whatever.... I wa stalking of Eilistraee, for sure; of course; it's a part of the whole thread, and he grew up in a typical drow city, so.... |
| Alac Luin03-23-07, 09:41 PM | skeef possible Meanings Skeef, Mpho - Female South African Vocalist I think working in London. Skeef, Eugine- South African Percussionist. Skeef- To steal (English slang) Skeef- Similar to a "skeazer", but not as derogatory. (English slang) Skeef- off center, skew (Afrikaans) Skeef- Whatever (Draconic, kobold dialect) Skeef- There is another possible Real World usage, I don't think I can say here |
| Treymordin03-23-07, 09:51 PM | Who said skeef was an English word? |
| Alac Luin03-23-07, 10:00 PM | Well, since I found usage of that word in English, it is an English word. How it was used earlier may not have been English. I doubt it was referring to a Russian Computer system, my vote goes with it being kobold :P |
| The_Shaman03-23-07, 10:02 PM | Every drow has imo. Either because everyone else worships her or everyone else is scared of her. |
| Treymordin03-24-07, 11:33 PM | Well, since I found usage of that word in English, it is an English word. How it was used earlier may not have been English. I doubt it was referring to a Russian Computer system, my vote goes with it being kobold :P From the original post that simply said skeef, how could you tell that it was being used in an English usage? |
| Lord Karsus03-25-07, 11:38 PM | Driz'zt grew up... -Drizzt. Drizzt. No apostrophe. It really bugs me when people spell it incorrectly. LK, I do believe that when speaking kobold Skeef means Whatever.... -Ah, I see. Good to know. From the original post that simply said skeef, how could you tell that it was being used in an English usage? -Well, being as that these Boards are only supposed to be in English, and not any other language, it's a pretty good hypothesis, this aspect thinks. |
| Treymordin03-28-07, 07:59 AM | :noway: :rolleye2: |
| Lord Karsus03-28-07, 09:10 AM | -It is tough to digest, I know, but the feeling will pass... |
| Treymordin04-01-07, 07:36 PM | Whatever. |
| Alac Luin04-01-07, 08:03 PM | Whatever. Skeef :P |
| GothicDan04-01-07, 11:45 PM | Where did the idea that Drizzt had an apostrophe in it start, anyway? Maybe confusing it with Graz'zt? |
| WinterPsionic04-02-07, 02:06 PM | Where did the idea that Drizzt had an apostrophe in it start, anyway? Maybe confusing it with Graz'zt? I'm not sure but I would've sworn I saw it in a book with an apostrophe, I was spelling it that way for quite a while until I start reading he books again and noticed there wasn't one. |
| Critalondel04-03-07, 01:17 AM | Maybe the fact there's one in Do'Urden gets folks confused about it? |
| Treymordin04-03-07, 01:19 AM | I liked the books that showed the depravity of the drow. Sacrifice the Second Boy of House Do'Urden for the glory of the Spider Queen.:D |
| Faraer04-03-07, 10:43 AM | Where did the idea that Drizzt had an apostrophe in it start, anyway? Maybe confusing it with Graz'zt?That, the many apostrophes in Bob's other drow names, the fact that some people puzzlingly like fantasy apostrophes, and various kinds of dyslexia. |
| GothicDan04-03-07, 03:45 PM | Most informative. :) |
| The_Shaman04-03-07, 06:24 PM | I liked the books that showed the depravity of the drow. Sacrifice the Second Boy of House Do'Urden for the glory of the Spider Queen.:D Wasn't the killed brother the elder one (I mean in the raid on House De'Vir) |
| Treymordin04-06-07, 10:48 PM | Yes. But sacrifice Drizzt! |
| Skeptical Clown05-01-07, 04:39 PM | From the original post that simply said skeef, how could you tell that it was being used in an English usage? It's almost impossible to tell anything from a one-word post, so it's roughly the equivalent of typing random letters on a keyboard. Pronounced: "sgeaf" , best way i think to explain the sound as the Nederlandse pronunciation is with (sch) SG, guttural.. and double E sounds more like EA then how english pronounces double E BTW, "Dutch" is derived from Deutsch, and is only used in English and is not correct in name and definition of what my language and my people should be named as (IMO), its SLANG in English for a name not ours. And to add another detail while i am blabbing about: Holland is NOT the name of "my" country, it is only the name of 2 (North and South Holland) of the 13 provinces who when all are put together constitute the "Royal Kingdom of the Netherlands", again in Engish and Russian it is a "nickname" and not correct. | Alac Luin05-03-07, 12:07 AM | It's almost impossible to tell anything from a one-word post, so it's roughly the equivalent of typing random letters on a keyboard. If there is fault, it's not of people divining the wrong interpretation, but bothering to interpret it at all. Yea, having fun with a nonsense post in a nonsense manner is ALMOST as bad as RESURRECTING a thread that has been dead for almost a month to add two sentences that add nothing to topic of the thread. :P |
| Valisil05-12-07, 11:35 AM | I was under the impression that this was a thread about "Classes for Eilistraee" not the word "skeef" or "drizzt" |
| Alac Luin05-12-07, 07:02 PM | I was under the impression that this was a thread about "Classes for Eilistraee" not the word "skeef" or "drizzt" Well, it was about "Classes for Eilistraee". As most threads, the focus typically changes as the thread runs it course, and then it usually dies. But people keep insisting to bumping the thread, without adding anything to the original topic... Did you have something you wanted to ask/say about "Classes for Eilistraee"? |
| Xenia05-14-07, 02:37 PM | I suppose that if anyone's still interested in Eilistraee-oriented classes or PrCs, I have a gloura I'm about to play who discovered the worship of Eilistraee. I'm using the divine bard variant from UA (which I ADORE for Eilistraee as a way to be cleric-like but still sing/dance, and it's great that someone else mentioned it here) for her, and she's on her way to Mystic Wanderer (not only does the flavor fit Eilistraee, but you know she's all about the nudity.) and then the prestige class Memory Smith for Dragon #311. (the real reason for why I'm posting) Anyway, Memory Smith is intended for worshippers of Moradin, but is absolutely perfect for Eilistraee, given her affinity for smithing and swordplay. (the class requires craft ranks [amongst others] and gives spells like keen edge and divine power as bard spells known). Also, looking forward to casting whirling blade from the Spell Compendium. I bet Eilistraee herself would know that herself if she were updated. ;) Nothing like flinging that bastard sword in a 60 ft. line. [I may as well linkie to my gloura; why not? http://people.bu.edu/rbell/gloura.xls)] Other goodies for my fellow Eilistraens out there: Slippers of Battledancing - Cha to hit and damage, 10 ft. extra movement.. just all around awesome. DMG II Sun Blade - A bastard sword that you can Finesse!?! This is my best goal since I saved up for that pirate ship! :-) In DMG I. |
| Skeptical Clown05-14-07, 04:29 PM | Well sure, I'll contribute! For base classes, obviously any class can work. I'd think that Cleric, Ranger, Fighter, and Bard are the most obvious worshippers of Eilistraee, but I also have to think that Rogues and Wizards, being major members of Drow society, would be frequent converts. Favored Souls would also fit in pretty easily. Barbarian would be pretty weird, but I suppose it could work. Duskblades, Ninjas, Scouts, Swashbucklers, Warblades, Warlocks, and Warmages all might make interesting different choices for base classes. For prestige classes, the Sword Dancer is the obvious choice for rangers and clerics. Silverhair Knight from that back issue of Dragon (#215?) was a more fanatical branch of the church devoted to capturing and converting drow to the path of good. A nice class, but maybe a bit too strange to fit into most groups. I'd think that Bladesingers and Spellsongs both appeal to the elvish nature of worshippers, especially since Eilistraee seems to represent a return to elvish roots for Drow. The spelldancer and... whatever that dancing PrC was from the recent Complete Scoundrel (Masked Dancer?) seem appropriate as well. Harper Scouts could be different path to follow, and a reformed Assassin could be interesting too. |
| DojiHoturi05-15-07, 12:03 AM | I have become a VERY big fan of the Swordsage as a class for Eilistraee worshippers. My current character is a relatively low level cleric of Eilistraee. I started as a cleric to flesh out the party. I would much rather have gotten a level or two of Bard and maybe a level or two of Ranger(or Fighter, or now that I know about it, the Swordsage) for purely mechanical reason (skill points and feats). Oh well, someone had to sacrifice for the team and I was the most experience roleplayer so I took the hit. I think the touch of Bard and Fighter-Type with lots of levels in Cleric (or Favored Soul) fits the bill. Some of those 2e classes I am not too familiar with. I went straight from 1e to 3e. I also think that arcane magic is not such a draw to her clergy. Certainly she has worshippers that do use it and are very good at it, I am sure. I like the idea of the darker side of Eilistraee worship that some have described here. I have been playing my character that way for some time now and it is very cool. My fellow players usually see a good natured, inquisitive and quite gentle individual, then they will see this quiet, intense, and frighteningly angry side of her. 2 pennies, Doji ps. for prestige classes, I like the Dervish (complete adventurer?) and the Master of the Nine (tome of battle). |

[I may as well linkie to my gloura; why not? http://people.bu.edu/rbell/gloura.xls)] I'm not that familiar with the "Divine Bard" I'm interested to see how your DM is handling the stacking of natural spell casting for the Gloura. The Gloura is a great race, but being ECL 9 before any class levels can be detrimental (at least you have 7 levels of bard spell casting :)) I went to take a look, but your linkie doesnt seem to go anywhere (person not found message). For those interested and don't have Underdark, the basic Gloura can be found here... http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20031003e I'd think that Bladesingers and Spellsongs both appeal to the elvish nature of worshippers, especially since Eilistraee seems to represent a return to elvish roots for Drow. The spelldancer and... whatever that dancing PrC was from the recent Complete Scoundrel (Masked Dancer?) seem appropriate as well. Harper Scouts could be different path to follow, and a reformed Assassin could be interesting too. The issue with Bladesinger, is that typically it's more of a moon elf thing, and in old lore it was made clear that they would never teach a Drow the art of a bladesinger. (work this out with the DM) The Harper route is not really an obvious choice, but Elli is friendly to the Harpers, even if she was not at the Dancing place when the harpers were re-founded. This could be an interesting path. I like the idea of the darker side of Eilistraee worship that some have described here. <snip> My favorite insight to Eilistraee worship came from the novel Silverfall (I think thats the title). It showed an interesting ritual, and the complex nature of her followers. The desire to be "good" and their initial reactions learned by being drow. |
| Xenia05-15-07, 01:08 PM | I'm not that familiar with the "Divine Bard" I'm interested to see how your DM is handling the stacking of natural spell casting for the Gloura. My story for my gloura is that while developing her hit dice (maybe midway) and casting as a normal gloura would (arcane, bard) she discovered the faith of Eilistraee (still fleshing out the story). So while divine bards as written don't get their spells from gods, all divine spellcasters do in FR, and so she starts getting her bard spells from Eilistraee. I don't know if I'm actually going to take a formal level of divine bard (not being much of a fan of bardic music myself, since it wouldn't stack with my gloura HD anyway). But the bard spellcasting she gets will be of the divine nature. I mean, with races like gloura and nymph, their spellcasting is still "learned" and are not spell-like abilities, so she just learned to use her natural talent a little bit differently. The Gloura is a great race, but being ECL 9 before any class levels can be detrimental (at least you have 7 levels of bard spell casting :)) The number of HD is pretty harsh, and the skills they get are very limited, but I love the flavor of the race. The campaign is starting at level 9 (since it's a continuation, or part two kind of, of a previous campaign), so it works well for the gloura. She's kind of the cohort and guiding conscience of a CN drow beguiler who is the only other new character entering this party with me. (the poor player...a previous char. of mine blew up (a la scorching ray) his nearly-vampiric wizard in the Age of Worms arena.) Both the drow and gloura worship Eilistraee but are having some struggles with it. (the gloura obviously not being a drow and having some angst over that, and the drow trying to do good and shake off her ebil, dominatrix tendencies) I'm really excited about gloura as a race, though with so much orientation towards Eilistraee, I often forget that she's not a drow with wings. She's practically a photo-negative of a drow, lol. But anyway, I once had a Drow Bard 1 that accomplished very little and always nearly died (as one does when they have 1 HD and are ECL 3), and this is a way for me to continue that character in spirit, and more effectively. Glouras are rather well-equipped for running around naked (Unearthly Grace) and nimbly whacking things. I guess she hopes to impress Eilistraee with her martial ability and morally guiding the drow beguiler, to make up for not being a drow or even elven herself. I went to take a look, but your linkie doesnt seem to go anywhere (person not found message). Egads, there was a rogue parenthesis at the end in my intial post. Do-over! http://people.bu.edu/rbell/gloura.xls May turn out wonky because I made it on a Mac here at work. (doesn't display the same on my pc at home) |
| Skeptical Clown05-15-07, 01:50 PM | The issue with Bladesinger, is that typically it's more of a moon elf thing, and in old lore it was made clear that they would never teach a Drow the art of a bladesinger. (work this out with the DM) Perhaps (I'm not familiar with such lore myself), but there's nothing that says worshippers of Eilistraee must be drow. Certainly there could be other elves (or half-elves) who are both bladesingers, and worshippers of Eilistraee. |
| Alac Luin05-15-07, 01:56 PM | My story for my gloura is that while developing her hit dice (maybe midway) and casting as a normal gloura would (arcane, bard) she discovered the faith of Eilistraee (still fleshing out the story). <snip> Personally, I may not allow that as a DM. Then agien I haven't thought about it to much. I'll just say check it out with your DM If it works for your game, its all good. :) The number of HD is pretty harsh, and the skills they get are very limited, but I love the flavor of the race. It looks like a great race to play, flavor wise. HD wise, its not so bad, comparable to bard. Both are d6, good ref/wil, 6+int mod skill points and bard spell progression. Flight, Unearthly Grace, DR and the ability modifiers are worth the +2 LA and whatever the racial hit die are lacking. |
| Alac Luin05-15-07, 02:02 PM | Perhaps (I'm not familiar with such lore myself), but there's nothing that says worshippers of Eilistraee must be drow. Certainly there could be other elves (or half-elves) who are both bladesingers, and worshippers of Eilistraee. Good point, I tend to only think "Drow", even if I know better. I see nothing "odd" about a Goura Eili worshiper, as you can see from the other line. :) So a moon elf Eili worshiper is not out of line. (nor is a half-elf) |
| Xenia05-15-07, 02:03 PM | Personally, I may not allow that as a DM. Then agien I haven't thought about it to much. I'll just say check it out with your DM If it works for your game, its all good. :) Yep, we worked it out and he thinks that's perfectly acceptable and explanable, and not unbalanced. Divine bard isn't an advantage or anything (in fact, it's tougher because you have to split your spellcasting over two stats). And we already know it fits well deity-wise. They are pretty similar to bards, except bard spellcasting is a little disappointing, and having bardic music/knowledge and a good skill list makes up for that a bit. So she's a bit lackluster in spells, and in skills (since gloura are pretty limited in their list.. Know(nature), Listen/Spot/SenseMotive, Perform, that's pretty much it) So, she won't be the knowledge-monkey and buffer a bard would, but hopefully I'll tear it up in melee. I'm looking forward to actually having martial weapon proficiences some day, rofl. (*that's* when I get myself a Sun Sword [DMG]and make Eilistraee proud. "You drow won't reason with me??! Then BAM, daylight in your faces!) |
| Alac Luin05-15-07, 02:10 PM | What about Diplomacy and Survival? Aren't they class skills for the Racial Hit die? |
| Xenia05-15-07, 02:13 PM | What about Diplomacy and Survival? Aren't they class skills for the Racial Hit die? Ah, true, you're right. Having the Diplomacy helps to get into Mystic Wanderer, too. I like the idea of her having that high Diplomacy mod, plus tongues, roaming around the Underdark healing all the little goblins in distress. :-P I'm crossing my fingers she doesn't get fireballed into oblivion with her 34 hit points. The DR and high AC helps with melee, of course, but I fear big blasty things. And god knows what in the Tomb of Horrors... poison gas traps or some such nonsense. |
| DojiHoturi05-16-07, 01:13 AM | One of the cool things about Eilistraee is that they make a point of the fact that there are other races that worship her (as per 'Faiths and Pantheons of Faerun'). Surface elves, Half-elves, Humans, Halflings, and all kinds of other wackier races find her appealing...she is pretty hot after all. :D My current character (that drow cleric of Eilistraee I mentioned in earlier post) is really taking the whole redemption thing to heart and is seriously pushing into the 'Book of Exalted Deeds' for some roleplaying inspiration. I will have to read 'Silverfall' now that someone mentioned some goodies in there. I think that Eilistraee is one of the coolest deities in the Realms. Maybe its just the goody-two-shoes in me, but whatever. And what is this 'Mystic Wanderer' class that keeps coming up? Is it 2e or 3e and where would I find it either way? Peace, Love, Dope, Doji |
| The Ubbergeek05-16-07, 01:17 AM | Ditto, I like her much, albeit it's a bit also the sad part of it that I like much... Kind of a doomed cause, a certain melancoly... They have fallen, the drow, in themselves, and in the eyes of others.... They have to fight the (sadly reasonable) fear and hate the other races give any dark-skinned, pointy-eared one, the other, less amiable (to say the least...) majority, and their own past, the weight of karma and frequently their rearing. It have a Morcook side. |
| Xenia05-16-07, 09:18 AM | My current character (that drow cleric of Eilistraee I mentioned in earlier post) is really taking the whole redemption thing to heart and is seriously pushing into the 'Book of Exalted Deeds' for some roleplaying inspiration. I do like that book for helping with alternative ideas on dealing with evil, although it's so righteously-toned that it's better to get ideas from it in snippets than read the whole first half and digest it. I used it for a ranger/paladin of freedom of Lurue, since I fell in love with Beloved of Valarian as soon as I saw that class. And what is this 'Mystic Wanderer' class that keeps coming up? Is it 2e or 3e and where would I find it either way? Mystic Wanderer is in the 3.0 Magic of Faerun book. It's pretty interesting, not very powerful but good flavor. And perfect for running about unarmored. :P Folks should look into Memory Smith from Dragon #311. Though it's for worshippers of Moradin, it's even better suited to worshippers of Eilistraee. Anyone can enter the class, and it gives bard spellcasting and bonus spells known like keen edge, magic weapon, magic vestment, and divine power. It looks *really* fun. Edit: Wow, in my travels today I came across gloura first written up in Dragon Magazine #227, in 2nd edition. They're mentioned briefly as messengers of Eilistraee.. that's nuts! I guess I feel conflicted.. since just when you think you're being original with a character, you go and find something already printed like that. But then again, it's nice to know her faith of choice isn't a big mismatch. |
| The_Shaman05-19-07, 07:13 AM | Has anyone mentioned the battle dancer from the Dragon Compendium so far, btw? It might be a form of "monk" affiliated with the cults of Eilistraee and a few related deities. Related by portfolios, I mean, not so much by blood. |
