| FrostWolf03-04-07, 08:56 PM | In the description, it says that they are always tinkering with some device or making something. How do you deal with this as a player or DM? What sort of things? Locks? Music boxes? death rays? Or do you just keep hammering out one suit of armor after the next? The entry in FaP is too non descriptive for me. |
| Alac Luin03-04-07, 09:32 PM | Lets see, they can make Locks, music boxes, or they can keep hammering one suit of armor after the next. Gond is the deity of technology and craftmanship. These are general headings. A cleric of Gond can make masterwork barrels, candles, bells, chimes, hinges, houses, walls, wooden wistles, leather pouches, pupets... It really doesn't matter. The two things that really come into game play is.... 1- What craft skills do I have or working on. It's unlikely that a charicter that has 0 points on Craft (wood working) that they are carveing wood statues, unless they are Roleplaying an in game explanation for picking that skill next level. 2- What can I do/carry while adventureing. Without an extra dimentional space they carry around with them that contains thier workshop, they would need small items that are easily transported. Like whittleing wood takes only wood scraps and the dagger that just about every adventurer carries. |
| FrostWolf03-05-07, 09:09 AM | Ah. Thank you very much for bringing it into perspective for me. I think I'll pick up a few ranks in woodworking and make toy Knights then.(Using my armor smithing with woodworking.) Maybe some craft: clockwork and make them wind up toys. |
| kharnethedestroyer03-05-07, 09:15 AM | why would you waste your time on wood? Take craft weaponsmithing or wonderous item. Then take the feats craft magic arms and armor or craft wonderous item. As far as equipment, take lock picks and such, the craft domain gives you access to pick lock and disable device I believe. The prestiage class for gondsman is okay, good if your campaign has alot of golems. I'm more of a gnome artificer fan myself. Priest of gond are really useful if you lack a thief. I have two priest of gond in my game and the two guys playing them have crafted more magic items then the party has found. Also you should take divine metamagic quicken spell and extra turning. You can turn a front line fighter into a big killing machine in 1 rd of combat. |
| FrostWolf03-05-07, 10:08 AM | I've taken the Creation and Artifice Domains. (Totals are +4 on every craft check, and +2 to all Conjuration spells.) And will be taking Combat Medic as my PrC. So with 1 rank in any craft, I'm at a +6:D I had to take a hit to my charisma, and take the feats needed to get into Combat Medic, so any crafting will have to wait. Other than mundane equipment. Basicly, Gond Clerics fit the flavor of the home brew, so that is what I went with for a god. |
| Karsus the Mad03-05-07, 01:34 PM | Gond has the Artifice domain? |
| FrostWolf03-05-07, 06:29 PM | He do now. Well, according to my DM, anyways. Think he said he found errata or something. What ever. It's a homebrew game anyways. |
| Alac Luin03-05-07, 07:30 PM | why would you waste your time on wood? Flavor... Roleplaying... the normal reasons. I'm one of those people that actually like taking a few levels in "pointless" craft/profession skills just because. Now imagine, you are a young child working the fields with your parents and this noble looking guy carrying some strange devices comes riding by stops next to you and hands you this wooden toy solder that has some clockwork gears and stuff that allows you to wind it up and and let this thing walk. A simple toy, for us, but not for the average child of Faerun. As years go by, this child will always have fond memories of Gond who allowed him to have this wondrous toy. This cleric is doing his deity's will spreading the glory the deity can bring. |

Dude, I don't care of your DM's homebrew game, it's his to do with as he pleases, but Gond has Artifice as a domain?!:D Oh yeah!:D:D:D:D |
| Empirate03-06-07, 04:30 AM | By the way, the Creation domain doesn't give "+2 to Conjuration". Rather, it gives +2 to effective caster level when casting Conjuration (Creation) spells, of which there are very, very few (and these are not that useful, anyway, and can do with a lesser caster level easily). One of the less enticing domains in my book. |
| kharnethedestroyer03-07-07, 04:46 PM | [once again why wood? whay purpose does it serve the party? it is a team game, not one moron to rule them all. |
| Karsus the Mad03-07-07, 04:52 PM | To properly carve, age, and prepare the wood so you can then use your Craft (bowmaking) to make a finished product for your ranger teammate? |
| Tevin Kevlak03-07-07, 05:21 PM | Or so you can build a simple battering ram from nearby trees to assault the BBEG's keep, or to make row boat to travel across the raging river saving your group days of looking for a safe way to cross, or to craft wooden weapons and/or armor for your druidic teammate or any number of other reasons.... |
| Alac Luin03-07-07, 06:12 PM | Or use your woodworking skills to improve wooden palisades for the outpost you are defending from a hoard of orcs with improved use of joints and dowels. Or to build furniture for your teammates to furnish that keep you just acquired. To help build a big horse that your party can hide in while....or is that a large stature of Grumish one-eye? Build a wooden cage strong enough to to contain the beast you just caught so you can return it for the bounty... (Granted, these would all have differing levels of dificulty, to be determaned by the DM) Skills represent what a character can do, based on that character. A cleric of Gond is well represented by the craft (woodworking) skill, along with any craft skill, whether it is listed or not . So you are playing that character by spending some skill points. How a player uses the character's abilities to aid the party is more of an aspect of player, not character. |

Just saying i'd be nice to be able to tell if that old wooden bridge will hold up under my heavy armor wearing self. |
| Todenfeuer03-12-07, 08:13 PM | Principles of Mathematics and the laws of Statics are greatly appreciated in all devices. From the miller's mill and peasants tools to the army's siege engines or fortifications. The art of pressing book would probably be a Gondsman invention, an extremely valuable profession given the market for spell books. I think Clerics of Gond on the road would often be asked by local people to help them ease some hard task. or help in designing something, new sewer system, irrigation etc. etc. Coupled with a cleric of Waukeen and an enterprising Wizard we have the core of a excellent moneymaker group. |
