I'm making an adventure where the Sarkrith, (Fiend Folio) who long ago migrated to a magic dead world, in the middle of the great saragossa (Greyspace: spelljammer). They long ago evolved into a technologically advanced race, and are planning to invade toril.
I'm making up a background storyline that they were once part of the creater races on toril, or a sub race.
What would be a good background story connection to this legend?

Do you have access to Serpent Kingdoms?

IMG, the Sarruhk were part of a much larger race of Sauroids. In their quest to dominate, they drove all others to flee Toril to survive. On some distance world, four sub-races survived and thrived, and some of them eventually returned (the Saurials). Little did the Sarruhk know, that one other group of Sauroids had avoided being caught by them - the Lacerials of Malatra (thats my explanation of why the saurials and Lacerials are identical (all four species!), yet one is native while the other is extra-planar.

The Sarkrith could be yet another sub-race that fled into wildspace, rather then the planes as the others did.
Or the Sarkrith could be the Sarrukh themselves, after another thirty thousands years of evolution.

Ahhhhh... but being trapped on a world with NO magic (as per the OP's description), their normal abilties wouldn't function. They had to spend the last 30,000 years finding 'scientific methods' of accomplshing the same things.

To me, thats even scarier - the Sarrukh meet the Borg - A bunch of reptillian creatures with all sorts of wires and 'implements' sticking out of them with artificial limbs and what-not. However, this is fantasy, not Sci-fi, so I would make them more Steam-Punk.

Lizardmen with Steam-tanks; now thats what I'm talking about! :dancin:
