Ikno wthat when a demon breeds with a half-fiend or a human the child will become a alu-fiend or a cambion. I was wanting to know what you would call a child born to a devil and human or a devil and a half-fiend, could there be a child born between devil and demon?

huh, well I'm not entirely sure seeing how fiends don't really breed like that. . . as far as I know (ask Karsus, either of them, they know and if they don't its not worth knowing)

But my take on it is no: a demon and devil would never get together and mate. . just wouldn't happen.

I don't see such a pairing providing any actual offspring unless massive, powerful magic and/or divine interaction was used. And in that case, it would be a singular creature.

Meh that thing would be ungodly to fight and would most likely be a paragon too

A Half-Fiend, of course. Theres no other term for them to my knowledge.

Well, most devils aren't capable of sexual reproduction within their own species (I'm not sure about demons, but it wouldn't surprise me if its the same), so I'd guess they can't with demons either. Plus you have the whole problem of the two races hating each other with a passion beyond mortal comprehension, so if such a union ever occurred at all it'd be something like a once-in-history event. And yeah, as Dan said, the offspring of such (if any came about at all) would no doubt be a unique creature.

Putting aside the improbability of this event all of you well mentioned, concerning rules there's maybe a possibility. As Wizards said somewhere that two true dragons of different species may make a half-dragon true dragon (this option only was just considered not probable) you could make a half-fiend demon or a half-fiend devil. I'm not sure that's quite legal, but If so (or if you ignore that) you'll take a more powerful fiend with smite good and more spell-like abilities. I insist in the improbability of the event.

Zevox hit it on the head when he said they don't breed amongst themselves. Generaly you need a mortal race to reproduce as a mortal. Dan also offered that all is possible with just the right amount of Mystra.;)

Note that Tanar'ri at least CAN multiply amongst their own species. Baatezu cannot, and Yugoloths (rarely) can.

Note that Tanar'ri at least CAN multiply amongst their own species. Baatezu cannot, and Yugoloths (rarely) can.

Tanar'ri can reproduce amongst themselves (except for "True Tanar'ri" which are only formed by the promotion of less powerful tanar'ri). Rank and file baatezu cannot reproduce amongst their own kind (with the sole exception of Erinyes who can breed erinyes in conjunction with other baatezu); and noble baatezu can breed but are heavily restricted in when and if they can do so.

All lesser yugoloths can breed to make mezzoloths, nycaloths can make nycaloths, arcanaloths can make arcanaloths, and ultroloths can birth arcanaloths via parthanogenesis; however 'loths view such procreation as awkward and disgusting, and look down upon the act.

There's no specific name for a generic half-devil, half-demon (cambions and alufiends being specific types), or half-'loth.

Tanar'ri and Baatezu normally kill each other with unholy fanaticism, so breeding isn't typically something that's tried, much less successful. However there are examples of it happening, just rare enough that it's virtually a unique event. One example was in the module 'Bastion of Broken Souls'. However it seems likely that 99.99999999% of such attempts will result in a non-viable birth, and something very messed up and likely very frightening when it does work.

If devils can't reproduce how do more come about? The same question to the demons that don't.

Petitioners/larvae are transformed into the lowest caste of baatezu (lemures). Higher ranks are formed by the promotion of lower type fiends.

Same for tanar'ri though the process of promotion is different.

Same for the progression along the yugoloth heirarchy, though again the exact process of promotion is different for this race. Though the 'loths don't form their lowest ranks from mortal souls/petitioners, rather they form spontaneously from the raw stuff of their native plane(s).

Would the child of a devil and human be called a cambion or is that only used in demon cases?

Cambion is specific for the offspring of a female mortal (doesn't have to be human necessarily) and a male tanar'ri (as opposed to obyrith, etc). The type of cambion depends on what type of tanar'ri the father was. Alu-fiends are the female 1/2 fiend daughters of mortal men and succubi.

There are some other isolated names for specific types of half-fiends.

According to Ed (a question regarding Lucifer's child) if two archdevils have sex then the offspring will be an archdevil. This just doesnt happen very often because Big A tends to frown on that. And you know what happens when Big A frowns:devil:
