I know it's probably to good to be true but I wanted to see it in writing just to be sure.

According to the Forgotten Realms, Races of Faerun under Shades p.147-149 it lists "[bullet] Level Adjustment +4. Shades are more powerfull and gain levels more slowly than the common races of Faerun..." Then in Abilities and Racial Features it says "In well-lit surroundings (daylight or the radius of a daylight spell) none of these powers function."

Does that mean a shade character would gain 4 levels of what ever class they are AND lose all of the shadow abilities in light? or was listing the level adjustment as a power just a typo or something?

No, it implies nothing of the sort. It just means you suck even more in the daylight.

Yeah because you still have the powers... they dont function in daylight

Their LA of +4 already factored in the possibility of the template being flat out useless in daylight, so it would not go away.:)
