Hi.

I have a few questions regarding the Druid combined with the Windwalker prestige class, from Faiths and Pantheons pg. 212.

1) Is Intuit Direction and Wilderness Lore now both the same as Survival?

2) The Windwalker gains a level of divine spellcasting class at every level. Used in combination with, lets say 7 levels of druid and 4 levels of windwalker (making me an 11th level caster), would I then still be able to spontaneous cast "Summon Natures Ally 5 and 6" even though it was not Druid caster levels?

3) A Windwalker gains the Super natural ability, "Ride the Winds" at 10th level. It gives the windwalker a fly speed of 100ft. Does this mean the windwalker automatically gains fly 100 ft. or does it mean that if I cast Fly I gain it with 100 ft. speed instead of 60 ft.?

Thanks for all help.

Oh well, guess it all doesn't matter. Druids, as I read it, can't gain spells nor follow Shaundakul :(

To answer your questions.

1. Yes both have been folded into the survival skill.

2. Yes you retain your ability to spontaniously cast, in the same way a cleric with a PrC can convert higher level cure spells.

3. That means that just like good ol Clark Kent you can hop in the sky whenever you want and fly at 100ft with perfect manuverbility(although I would say his say his speed is a bit faster).

If your still interested in playing a Windwalker let me also suggest the build of Ranger1/Cleric or Favored Soul6/Windwalker10, I had a buddy who played that a few years back and he enjoyed the charecter.

Favoured Soul or druid won't work. A windwalker needs to have access to the air or travel domain. So, even if you houseruled that druids can follow Shaundakul, they wouldn't be able to take this PrC

And it's suggested to nerf the PrC. It's to strong with a full caster progression and a full BAB progression.

Only clerics need to have Air and Travel domain to become a windwalker. I agree that the PrC is very strong.

Oh, right. Misinterpreted the odd formulation there.

Granted, I may have missed something, but where does it say "druids can't worship Shaundakul"? Shaundakul grants divine spells (has rangers and clerics mentioned prominently in his entry of FnP) is a CN deity (one of the allowed alignments for druids) and deals with the winds, travel and exploration. Winds is a nature concept, which satisfies the first comment in the Druid entry of the FRCS.

Just because it's not common doesn't mean it's not allowed.

The list in Faiths & Pantheons mentions Shaundakul as Ranger diety, not as druid diety.

The list isn't that logical, though. But Shaundakul has more of a 'rangery' feel to me. Druids don't fit his dogma.

FRCS lists Umberlee as a Druid deity, but FnP makes no mention of druids....does that mean Umberlee has no druids?

The only restriction placed upon what gods a druid can worship is the first comment in the FRCS

Like clerics, the druids of Faerun receive their spells from a particular deity, always a deity of nature or animals.

Shaundakul meets this acid test.

Maybe, but Shaundakul is not listed as a nature deity in the list on page 90 in F&P.
And his dogma doesn't fit druids. He sponsors trailblazers, exploreres and the like. Druids know that civilization follows them and endangers nature.

For further reference, Shaundakul's entry in Faiths & Avatars doesn't mention druids among his clergy. It's the same with Umberlee. But while F&P changed her, it didn't do the same for the Helping Hand.

pg 90 of FnP...now that's what I was asking for in my last post, a place that says Shaundakul can't have druids. :)

Dunno I agree with it, personally, but it's there.

There are druids who explore the most remote locations of the world, those are a perfect match for Shaundakul.

Only if they make that information public, in which case they'd be endangering nature. Remember the deific grudge matches sidebar in the Player's Guide. Shaundakul goes against Shar because of his dislike of secrets.

I found Druids of Gond - Gond, of all things - referenced in one of the Monster Manuals (3 or 4). They'd created some kind of construct-giant.

I think the Druid class is now wide-open for all sorts of deities. Shaundakul's easy.

A player in a group I DM is an Air Genasi Ranger/Fighter/Windwalker. Without thinking much of this, I made a final battle take place on a high series of bridges with randomly connected portals laying around. Wind Walk, Analyse Portal, he didn't even fall when the bridges came down. He loved it.

Er.. Okay. That's one of the things in rulebooks that deserve to be buried and forgotten.

Who the bloody Baator wrote that reference?

Monster Manual 4, too many authors to list, but headed by Gwendolyn Kestrel.

It's the Craa'ghoran Giant, a cross between an earth elemental and a stone giant. The 'In Faerun' section says they were "created by druids devoted to Gond in ancient times in an attempt to more ably fend off Netherese wizards..."

They like crafting stone, but that's about it to link them to either druids or Gond. They're evil and they enslave dwarves. Grumbar would have been a much better deity of choice for these druids, but not by much, as they are changing things.

I'm all in favour of funky twists on traditional things*, but druids of Gond is just... whacked.

* Like an Auril-worshipping Druid of Sossal who makes all that wood shaped furniture coming out of the place. Acts like a wizard, doesn't really get trees, so he just uses plant growth for wood for raw materials and tree walk portals. Still protects and loves arctic environments and animals in the name of Auril, mind you.

Perhaps they meant to write 'Grumbar.' We don't even have any evidence as to Gond EXISTING during Netherese times in actual FR canon, I don't think. It would make more sense to be Grumbar, though, since he's multispheric and all and obviously existed, at the very least.

EDIT: Hee, just reread your comment and saw your own Grumbar reference.

And on second thought, another possibility is that they may have been somehow linked to Ogremoch. The Gond thing is just terrible. Gag.

I don't know about WindWalker being overpowered, its frontloaded for sure, but most of the abilities after Air Walk, which granted is great, up until the 100' Perfect Manueverability at level 10 are pretty mediocre, i.e. Smite Evil Outsiders and Resistance Cold.

Plus you have to give up alot of feats to get into the PRC, things you will probably not ever need like Lightning Reflexes, and Weapon Focus Greatsword and Track. Thats alot of feats and entails losing at least 2 caster levels.
Dielzen

04-30-07, 09:15 PM
Human = Lightning Reflexes
1st = Track
3rd = Wpn Frof (Gsword)
6th = Wpn Focus (Gsword)
7th = Bab 5
8th = Windwalker 1

Feats, while suboptimal for a cleric, in no way hinder your progression (if human) or your time of entry. If demihuman you have to wait til 9th for the other feat, still allowing you to hit 10th Windwalker pre-epic.

And that's without looking for PrCs from 6th-7th that could grant a feat or two that either a) are on the list or b) offset having to take those feats.

Also, taking a fighter level in there (lowering casting progression by one, but oh well) provides you with two of the feats needed (MWP for free, plus one fighter feat that can be used for WF), as well as +1 BAB. So:

Human: Lightning Reflexes
1st - Fighter1: MWP, WF, Track
7th - Cleric6: BAB+5, plus choose two Feats you like
8th - Windwalker1

Much the same goes for Ranger1, giving you MWP and Track. So for losing out on one casting and turning level you get two Feats, 1HP on average with Fighter1 (wow...) or quite a few nice skillpoints plus a favored enemy as Ranger1. While it sucks to lose a casting level, Ranger1 makes up for it quite well.

The class has full BAB and full casting progression in addition to the class ablities. Even the Eldtrich Knight has only one ability and sacrifices a level spell progression for it.

If you think of the Windwalker as a Cleric/Ranger PrC, then you can speed up the character development. A spell progression that rises every other level doesn't hurt so much, then.

Yes it has full BAB, yes it has full casting, but after you cast you divine metamagic persistent divine power for the day, that wont matter anyway. :D

Also, like I said Human Ran1/Clr6/WW10, you lose out on 1 whopping caster level and you dont have to spend undue feats. Take Travel and either the Trade or Portal domains. And make sure you take Evil Outsiders as your favored enemy, just for good synergy.

1Ran1 Track, Lightning Reflexes, Wpn Focus(Greatsword)
2Clr1
3Clr2 Extend Spell
4Clr3
5Clr4
6Clr5 Persistent Spell
7Clr6
8WW1
9WW2 Divine Metamagic(Persistent Spell)
10WW3
11WW4
12WW5 Extra Turning
13WW6
14WW7
15WW8 Extra Turning
16WW9
17WW10

If your gonna play a Windwalker I suggest trying this build out, I think you just might like it.

My DM doesn't. I actually said I take the mediocre BAB/Full Progression version. But since we're a long way to the relevant levels, I can change my mind later.

Then your DM is kinda a hater. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the build, everything with the exception of Persistent Spell and Divine Metamagic is core and those are from complete arcane and divine. Dont tell me he's banning the Complete series, and if you say no just those 2 feats then me and him have a problem. Nothing irks me quite like specific picking and choosing of what i can and cant do, if you tell me theres no Psionics in a game then fine or were not the Book of Exalted Deeds thats ok, but when a book is allowed except for THIS feat or THAT PrC, then thats just BS.

I would Love Wind Walker on a Worshipper of Akadi, but i gather the prestige class is Shaundakul specific?

hmmz...don't like the prerequisites though.. o well... :plotting:

No, he's not banning the complete series. He just suggested toning down the Windwalker. And I agreed. The Windwalker is a ranger PrC mostly. in 3.0, the Ranger was kind of weak, so the strong Windwalker wasn't that much of a problem.

In 3.5, the Ranger became stronger, and the Windwalker is a bit on the overwhelming side.

Its not rare for a PrC to seem like it is designed for a specific base class. Windwalker for Rangers is a good example of this, as well as Master of the Yuirwood (from Unapproachable East), that seems designed for Rangers, too. But often you get much more mileage from these seemingly specific PrCs if you take a different approach. Windwalker for Ranger-1/Cleric or Druid-6 is a good example of this. MotY is perfect for Ranger-1/Wizard-x or perhaps even pure Wizard. This is quite often true for PrCs that offer full casting progression but don't specifically state what kind of casting you must be able to perform as a prereq.
