| Passivearmada08-13-07, 09:20 PM | I'm planning out a small Underdark village of exiled kobolds. They were brought together by a dragon that believes every creature has its worth. They have about 600 adult kibolds and are at war with the Troglodyte community (and greatly outmatched), so the PCs must decide whether or not to help them. It's kind of a lesson on worthiness and superiority without snottiness. Anyhow, I was wondering which type of dragon should be the leader. I figured a copper dragon, because of his turning mud to rock and vice versa, but then i read about how mischevious coppers are, and I began to wonder. I want to know which dragon would be best for this situation. Thank You :) |

Kobolds reproduce quickly, so dont hesitate to add in some half-dragon and draconic kobolds. This would help even out their power with the troglodytes. |
| MarkHall08-14-07, 03:02 AM | My first thought was "Blind silver dragon." |
| Passivearmada08-14-07, 10:11 AM | Well, I want the dragon to be goodly, and I only have access to the MMv.3.5, so I don't know about the special Underdark races. I was wanting the kobolds to lose the battle, but the PCs would determine the battle. They need to decide against the kobold stereotypes, or justice. I was leaning towards the silver dragon, probably ancient, but the blindness handicap puts it up to wyrm or even great wyrm. He (or she) will probably be very old and will be wise, but I don't want a gold dragon. The dragon brought the community together to promote the "everyone is created equal" idea, even if it is kobolds or the tarrasque. Silver dragons are always Lawful Good, so I'm leaning toward this. Maybe her children will help fight the battle- dragonwrought kobolds, maybe? Thanks for your ideas so far, guys- your ideas are greatly appreciated. |
| Bladedancer08-14-07, 10:23 AM | I would go with one of the gem dragons a pretty fair amount of them live in the Underdark. Most of them are neutral aligned so I could see them believing as you want it to in that every being has it's place. Plus maybe you could have a few of the leaders of the tribe be half gem dragon/half kobold. I mean come on how cool would a kobold with gem faceted scales look :D Just my 2 coppers |
| dragonheart08-14-07, 12:11 PM | A silver is almost too good for this in MO - I rather like the idea of the copper dragon doign it - think of as one single huge prank on everyone :D If your going to be doing this the Gem Dragons are also a decent possibility. I suggest its time to invest in some additional resources (this won't be cheap): Underdark, MMII (Gem Dragons), Draconomicon (possibly not), Dragons of Faerun, Races of the Dragon (has some neat kobold based stuff and templates etc.). |
| GothicDan08-14-07, 09:06 PM | I also thought Silvers were always CG, and Golds were always LG. "Everyone is created equal" is not necessarily a specifically "Good" trait, though. It's just a statement of what you believe to be fact. It's what you do response to this (fact) to you that would define its alignment. This really focuses a lot on Locke's ideas that Equality and Freedom are both true and good, but mutually negate each other on many levels. |
| Passivearmada08-15-07, 12:14 PM | No, Mr. Dan, Silvers are always Lawful Good, so says the MMv3.5. And this is just an idea guys, and I don't feel like buying 10 more books to make it work out. I don't have anything that says stuff about a neutral dragon. I only have: 1. PHB 3.5 2. DMG 3.5 3. MM3.5 4. Complete Scoundrel 5. Complete Warrior 6. Cityscape I've been looking into getting more books on creatures and stuff, but I see them as optional because the MM 3.5 is very resourceful. I also can hardly afford these books at $30 each, so I have to choose which one will be most useful. This Underdark scenario isn't going to be the center of a campaign, it's just going to be part of a freelance campaign, I think. Does anyone know of a webite or store where they sell these books cheap? I know Amazon.com has several sales, but I'm not sure if they apply to D&D books. Thanks. |

| MarkHall08-15-07, 01:37 PM | Ha. Another weird, random change from 2E. Not according to my Monstrous Manual... Golds, Silvers, and Bronzes are all listed as LG. Same in 1st edition. Brasses and Coppers are CG. |
