No wonder so much Mystara lore made it over to the Realms... (even the name of the Goddess of Magic is only one letter different) I disliked Halflings in older editions, but I like the new take on them in 3e; it finally makes them different then the Hobbits of LotRs. I figure each world has their own version of Halflings (Kender, Rhulisti, Warrows, etc..), and Hobbits belonged to Middle-Earth. I still use the original three races in my campaign (Hairfoot, Tallfellow, and Stout), right along side the new three. If the Elves can have seventyfive subraces, why can't halflings have at least six?

You can read a description of GAZ8 The Five Shires, and buy a PDF download for $4, at the link (http://paizo.com/store/downloads/wizardsOfTheCoast/classicDAndD/mystara/v5748btpy7mxo) I included in my post. Its portrayal of halflings (Hin -- first appearance of that term) closely matches Faerūn's, while the Five Shires are socially and culturally similar to Luiren. Back issues of Dragon are available from Paizo.com, Nobleknight.com, and other second-hand dealers. What other Mystara lore are you thinking of, Mark?

Passivearmada 06-17-07, 09:59 PM	you know, whenever i roleplay, im rogue-ish, so i have much difficulty deciding between elf and halfling a lot. the halfling's AC and attack bonus are tempting, but they lose strength. i also dont like their height difference, because i like to be a little intimidating to my foes (not like the skill check), and if i whisper something into my victim's ear for dramatic effect, i dont want them to think Mickey Mouse is behind them with a dancing broomstick or two. i like halflings, but not being halflings. in fact, i have an entire halfling city in my "world." so i usually just go with half-elfs, strangely (i like their character)
