I'm a big fan of the Mintiper's Chapbook entries. Especially Part 2 - called "The Tree of Wailing Souls".

http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=dnd/mc/mc20010829b

In the Chronicler's Footnotes #4, Eric gives his interpretation of how this tree would be statted-out since at that time (August of 2001), there was no monster manual entry for this monstrous tree.

Now 6 years later, WotC had published a ton of Monster Manuals, Fiend Folios, extra templates and what have you. So I'd be curious to see if this tree's game mechanics should be modified to a more customized 3.5 monster description with or without templates.

Thanks for your interest & help!

Sorry creepy drifter, as I play 1st edition, the existing stats made hash of my mid level group...:evillaugh

The high level group, however, leveled the entire darn mountain! :hides:

No holding back for those boys and girls when something actually scared the heck out of them.

I printed out the entire moonsilver's chapbook articles...but I am of no help in a transformation to 3.whatever...

Interested in a 1st edition game? :)

Well, I gotta give you credit, Selunatic - playing 1st Ed. D&D in today's environment has gotta be a challenge to find enough people actually don't want to play 3.0/3.5.

I gotta hold of some more monster manuals tonight (WotC 3.5 ones). So I'll poke around some more and see if there are some other monsters and/or templates that fit the Tree of Wailing Souls in 3.5 Land.

Dragon #339 has the death's head tree for v3.5e.

(Thanks to Tom Costa for the reference. I couldn't remember where I'd seen it.)

The Stone Age of D&D...ugh... no thanks here. *shudders* I like my fire, wheels, and cooked meat, thank you.
