I'm thinking of creating a Ghostwise Halfling Cleric from the Dales for a low-level campaign. I can't find any reference to Ghostwise Halflings in the Dales. Is there any established lore that places them in the Dales or Cormanthyr? (sp?)

I'm new to the WotC boards, so I really appreciate any help.

Thanks!

Good question! I don't see anything to that effect in the FRCS or PGtF, and I don't have RoF at hand.

BTW, welcome to the board and happy gaming!:w00t:

I think RoF places them exclusively in the woods of Luiren and surrounding regions. They are supposed to be quite rare.

I agree - idea is a bit of a stretch. I'll probably go with Lightfoot since everything I've read states that the Ghostwise rarely leave their forest.

Thanks for your help!

Pretty much, mainly in its southern part. Most of the Ghostwise hin exiled themselves from Luiren and took up residence there and in the Channathwood at the end of the Hinwar, so very few are left in the Luirwood. I don't think any went farther north than the Chondalwood.

So basically... no Ghostwise outside the Shining South.

Yeah, well, I used the term 'surrounding reasons' a bit to liberal. ;)

The Ghostwise are an invention of 3e, which is one of the reasons you won't find them too far afield.

In fact, all three subraces should only be found in and around Luiren, because my 2e books only describe Stouts, Tallfellows, and Hairfoots everywhere else. :P

What would their 3.X equivalents/analogues be?

Considering the sheer number of portals in the Realms, and the fact that there are several conecting the lands around the Shar to points north, I would say it is entirely pssible that a tribe of Ghostwise 'appeared' in Cormanthor.

I figure that at some point during Myth Drannor's glory days, they probably set-uo portals to other forests/Elven Realms. Figure there is probably one of those in the chondalwood, and more then likely one to the High Forest. Thereofore you could theoretically have them living in the High forest as well.

Or anywhere, for that matter. ;)

There are no easy analogs converting old to new... I just use all six IMG, as well as several others (kender, Warrows, Athasian, Shojo, Talenta, etc...)

I was under the impression that hairfoot = lightfoot in 3.x and tallfellows and stouts = stronghearts.

Except for the Ghostwise ones, they are = the old ones, as far I can see.

I agree, and was going to post pretty much to this effect. The "main home" of the Ghostwise would indeed be in the Shinning South, but there's no REAL REASON why they can't be found in small groups elsewhere. Just like Gold Dwarves: just because the majoirty of 'em are in the Great Rift, that doesn't mean that they ALL ARE!

The portal thing stands out as a good one, for me. Or maybe a group of them were captured by an evil wizard or something, to be experimented on, but they were underestimated and overcame their captor and escaped to the nearest forest...Cormanthor.

Sound plausable?
