Not only that but the both in one novel along with a few other surprises, I wonder how this bodes for the realm as a whole.

I think what it means is that there are goliaths and warlocks in the Realms.:)

Indeed.

And the novel createvmind refers to is Depths of Madness (http://www.candlekeep.com/bookshelf/novels/959727400.htm) by Erik Scott de Bie.

You find discussions about the novel and the characters involved in the current Book Club discussions over at Candlekeep.

Hah! Thanks Sage. I was going to ask which novel....you must have known someone would ask. I have a player who is currently running a Warlock so I thought I might check out the book.

Yes there is a Goliath, actually the book "reintroduces" a wide spectrum of things into the realms to make one go "Ahhhhhhhhh, interesting."

First use of Hizagkur I seen so far and while I've used it on my Players, I've not allowed them to get their hands on it as I find it a very rare metal with even fewer items worked and not in the hands of dwarves to begin with. That may change if we ever see what happens in Shanatar in near future.

A warlock villain if i remember correctly. That would be Davoren. And he's not exactly a villain, though he isn't really a hero either. :smirk:

Can someone say something about this goliath's background? just to get an idea of a 'canon' goliath origin in the Realms.
