Assuming this is part of the back story.

A elven couple are travelling, (trying to get back to their elven community where they wish to raise the child amongest their own kind while previously they lived in a human community each then teaching or working with humans in some manner.) the wife in the early stages of pregnancy with the couples first child. During their travel they are set upon by a vampire or vampire spawn. The wife is drained to near death but the attacker is eventually driven off by the husband. The husband knowing that those who are blood drained by a vampire eventually raise as vampires themselves worries that his wife's condition may worsen and she could become a vampire. He decides to find the vampire responsible and kill it in the hopes of reversing the effect.

The husband using his magiks as well as calling upon aid from his elven friends and family hunt down the vampire and slay it. The wifes condition improves and it is believed she has made a full recovery. However when the time comes and the child is born they notice the child is strange and not at all normal in terms of his features in comparison to normal elves. With all the extra jarble packed within the Half Vampire template (libris mortis) with the exception of the childs behavior which seems to be Chaotic Good how would his parents and community treat him?

The child doesn't have the blood dependancy or blood drain ability he has the Charming Gaze ability instead.

Could this work within a region that is heavily elven?

Heya,

The wife is drained to near death but the attacker is eventually driven off by the husband.

This is the important sentence, the gigantic plot hole that makes the rest unravel. Just being drained to near death is not enough to make you transform into a Vampire. You have to actually DIE.

I could have been harsher, you know. The story is absurd. It breaks my ability to suspend disbelief because...

In order to become a vampire, you first have to die.
Just as, in order to become a lich, you first have to die.
In order to become a ghost, you first have to die.
In order to become a skeleton, a zombie, a wraith, a shadow, or any other undead you care to name, you first have to die.

In order to become UNDEAD, you first have to be DEAD.

It's absurd to suggest otherwise.

I've never liked the idea of a half undead. The reason being that someone who is undead is already in a twilight in between state of being dead, and yet still living. To my mind, it's like saying someone is half pregnant. Either you are or you aren't (in this case, undead or not - there's no inbetween). This isn't something from a rules book - this is simple logic.

Actually its more so that the rule books don't have the actual flexibility that the original myth does. According to rule books its drained until you die. However in most vampire related mythos the victum need only get biten, the actual dying can be drawn out for days until the subjects transformation is complete however prior to that it has been done in numerous stories that the person can continue living normally yet slowly devulging until they become a vampire.. Think Bram Stokers dracula if you must.

Also after re-reading the template this is actual one of the two methods given, I just finished the unexplained part with something I felt is very possible. Also to support this idea you can look at the Savage Progression on gaining a template mid game, it also high suggest that the transformation into a vampire can be drawn out through level gains which would obviously mean you didn't die at the hands of the vampire, that for some reason you still have access to gaining the template but didn't actual die complete at the hands of the vampire that made you.

Also this actually is derailing the topic, the question is.. With Moon Elves being the largest population of elves in Faerun and the most accepting in terms of other living creatures who would they treat a child with such a lineage.

Actually, I'm pretty sure the gradual gain through a template would be more like understanding your new found powers. For instance, the character dies and comes back as a vampire however for game balance he is not a full vampire. The next level he gets he starts to take the vampire monster class. He would already have died and become a vampire.

And also, this isn't completely nullifying my statement earlier. I can see how vampirism would be more fun as a disease than as: "You dead! You vampire now! You no hungry for hot pockets! You hungry for blooooood!" The main difference between those two incidents of course is the half-vampire in the first one.:)

The result of that prolonged illness, is that the victim dies - and still dies prior to becoming a vampire. It changes nothing.

Vampirism is not Lycanthropy.

(This is all even before we get onto a discussion about how this would affect a foetus... but that's a discussion better left for the mature forum! The absurdity is just not going to go away for me, so I will bow out now.)

well, the half vampire template does exist...

sooo...

I think the story is fine. Should prove to be interesting...

In order to become a halfvampire you must have had a vampire for a parent or had a mother whom was bitten but survived. At least this is this DM's story.

To suggest anything else is absurd! ;)

Rule #1...

If you like it, use it

Rule #2...

If you don't like it, don't use it

It's friggen' D&D, where nothing and everything is absurd!!!!

You're not going to call the baby blade, and have the other vampires hate him because he is the daywalker are you?:P
