Hi all,
I will be playing a sun elf Heartwarder of Hanali Celanil in the near future. Given that the Heartwarder PrC does not specify what type of spells (arcane or divine) one must cast in it's entry requirements, merely a patron deity one serves as a Heartwarder, there are two spell-casting pathways I'm considering. Essentially, I'm trying to decide whether to pursue the pathway of a cleric or sorcerer in gaining access to the Heartwarder PrC. I briefly contemplated being a bard (as most elves have a fondness for music and dance), but decided to forego it as the Exotic Weapon Proficiency (whip) would no longer be neccessary, seeing as how Hanali's favored weapon is the dagger.

I'd like for him to be competent in the making, and marketing, of scents and perfumes. Does anyone know which Craft or Profession (or both) skill(s) this would be? Alchemy, perhaps?

I also wonder how elves (and in particular, sun elves) would respond to him being a sorcerer instead of the traditional wizard. Which class would garner him more recognition among the elven populace, and which would be more powerful (spell save DC's, etc.)? The Charisma bonus inherent in the Heartwarder PrC would certainly fuel a sorcerer's spellpower, but would this be worth the loss of social status and respect one might have otherwise, as an actual cleric of Hanali's faith?

More information on Hanali's clergy, rituals, and major centers of worship would also be helpful. The brief description given her in Faiths and Pantheons (or any elven deity for that matter...) is hardly much to go on.

Concerning high magic, are clerics able to participate as casters (albeit secondary ones)in it? Would a cleric or sorcerer prove more effective/useful in high magic?

Another question about regional/racial feats. If a sorcerer, I might could go with Mind over Body, but are there any other recommendations for a cleric?

Thoughts and comments are certainly appreciated and welcomed. :D

On a side note, the party I'll be adventuring with will include a human paladin of Sune. The debates we're bound to have on elven and human beauty will be sure to raise some eyebrows. Although my sun elf will probably end up getting all snooty and turning his back on the paladin, muttering something along the lines of "trying to debate the finer points of elven beauty and superiority are certainly lost on such a barbaric being as a human." Not that humans could ever compare to the grace, majesty, and beauty of the elves. Pshh.

I'd go Cleric over Sorcerer. You'll get a wider variety of spells as a Cleric, and Sorcerers are not very well looked on in elven society. At higher levels, a Cleric has more powerful spells and more use of them in a day.

Heartwarders and Mystic Wanderers are more divine based IMO

Yeah, I was thinking how much I hate Marines with a passion!! Is that a good enough thought?

Uhh.... not exactly the thought I was looking for. ;)
I found the "Hanalian Goldheart" class in The Elven Netbook, along with a few other nifty tidbits there. So I suppose thats what I'll be using.

I'm guessing that making perfume/scents would be Craft (alchemy).

Thanks for the input though.:dancin:

Yeah I'd go with alchemy for that type of stuff... then profesion business to start to market them

Or go with Gem crafting... Gems, and jewels are things of beauty, and that's something Hanali would smile on.

Have you even looked at the Mystic Wanderer PrC in Magic of Faerun? It fits very nicely with a Cleric of Hanali.

Jewel-crafting is nice... I'm going to have several craft/art skills... Since I've decided to pick up a few levels of Bard for the skill points. Sculpting, jewl-crafting, perfume-making, etc. Sort of an artist type. Also, I've decided to take the feat "Artist."
I don't have a copy of Magic of Faerun, so I don't know what the Mystic Wanderer is... unfortunately. :(

honestly I think sorc rather than cleric it synergizes well with heartwardens CHA boosts. Also rather than sun elf Id play a star elf they can be found in unapproachable east they ahve bonus to CHA rather than INT.

I dunno I just ahve to be different

If you are familiar with Faiths and Avatars, the Mystic Wanderer is basically the mystic class from that book. With some serious improvements.

They are actually really fun to play. They can brew potions, and have access to gem magic. Which is sort of like rune casting, but it puts a spell in a gem.

I always thought of the Mystic Wanderer as rather haphazardly put together. You'd have to put a lot of work into flavoring it so you can actually use it. The abilities they get don't seem to go together very well, and don't lend themselves to any overall concept.
Heartwarder is definitely cooler. Also, as long as you're picking up Bard levels anyway, why not go straight Bard/Heartwarder? Put in some levels of Lyric Thaumaturge for some extra spells and tricks, or Spellsinger for the elven flavor, cool spontaneous enchantments and spellsong.

Since I don't have access to the Mystic Wanderer PrC, I'll have to forego that...
The Spellsinger sounds nice.... I might pick that up once I complete the Hanalian Goldheart Prestige class.

Heh, I love the idea of magical music. :dancin:

Why not favored soul or bard? IIRC both of these could qualify, and both rely mainly on charisma for their casting. Make sure to get the FS variant from PHB though... a Favored soul of Hanali getting weapon focus is really weird.

Wow, you've really brought up a good point here. A Favored Soul or Cleric of Hanali? Hmm.. Considering that the Favored Soul loses the Domains a Cleric gets, many of the unique spells Hanali bestows upon her clerics would be thrown out the window. However, the Charisma that the Favored Soul's spellcasting relies upon is nice. The Weapon Focus is out of character for a servant of Hanali.

I guess it depends on my character concept...
A trained and faithful priest, or a "favored one" of Hanali...
I'll have to think about this..
