| BlueDove03-18-07, 11:50 AM | I'm bringing in a brand new player who had a very specific character request... she wanted to be tinkerbell on steroids... lol. So we're using a Pixie character (Bard class), no problem there... but I haven't been able to find much on Pixie (or any Fey, really) society. I need some specifics for her character background and to introduce her into the party. (Afterall, it's not as if Fey commonly go out adventuring with mortals...) Some questions I need answered: How are Fey born? Do they have parents, or are they created magically somehow? Are they a product of nature? Would they suffer any ill effects from leaving their home forest, or if the forest was cut down? What might drive a pixie to seek the company of adventuring mortals? If anyone could point me to a good source book or site, I'd greatly appreciate it. Speculations are welcome too! Thanks in advance! |

Being more entwined with magic than anything but a dragon will tend to make your origins very interesting. Grig(pg175), Nixies(pg188), Pixies(pg190), and Satyr(pg192) are all represented in Savage Species. Burning down her home forest wouldn't adversly affect a Pixie. It would royaly tick her off though. :elf: A dryad would be a different story. She needs her tree. :g: I have DM'd a pixie whose girdle of stone giant strength and slippers of climbing made for Kodak moments, til the :dragon: ate her.... |
| Pystian03-18-07, 04:04 PM | I'm looking for this kind of information now too. What about age categories? Specifically for the Dryad. Even just some kind of rough ballpark estimate of how long they live would be nice. I'm trying to help a PC make a Half-Dryad. |
| LockeTM03-18-07, 08:33 PM | I am pretty sure that dryads live as long as their tree, but I could be wrong. Found this one tho. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/vv/20041021a At least that one has lived several centuries. |
| BrennonGoldeye03-18-07, 08:42 PM | I know that Dryad's normally give birth to female children, thus more Dryads. I'm pretty sure that there is a half-dryad out there. I have the 1/2's mentioned earlier, 1/2 nymphs, 1/2 Satyrs, and Fey Blooded in my library. Maybe we'll get lucky and Sage will help out.:) |
| Old Sage03-18-07, 09:50 PM | Half-dryads were originally referenced in DRAGON #109 -- in the article "Hooves and Green Hair". I'm not entirely sure whether they've ever been updated to 3e. |
| Green Elven Vampire03-18-07, 10:51 PM | You can say your pixie is looking for a portal or gate that leads to the Seelie Court!! |
| Khaelieth03-19-07, 07:37 PM | Fey mounds are cool. Check 'em out in Magic of Faerūn for more info=) |
| Pystian03-20-07, 02:54 PM | Thanks folks. That helps a lot. |
| EytanBernstein03-20-07, 04:53 PM | There will be some more fey information in my upcoming Class Chronicles article (the 2nd half of the warlock entry). |
| Wire03-20-07, 05:41 PM | There are 2 fey related templates in 3.5 WotC (check the various MM and FF books). They are Feytouched and Half-Fey. Both are around +1 ECL. |
| Andyr03-24-07, 01:38 PM | Feytouched is a race, not a template, although there is something on the web somewhere with a progression class to half-fey. Half-fey is a template. |
