| hawkinsthedm08-15-07, 08:41 PM | So, first they do not post the "Class Chronicles" article for today, and then they start this stupid "4dventure" blocking you from accessing anything related to D&D on the Wizards page. I think it must be some stupid gimmick for the DI! Grrr...It is good that there is no one nearby to bite! |
| PharaunMizzrym08-15-07, 08:56 PM | What is 4dventure? |
| MerrikCale08-15-07, 09:13 PM | looks like they redoing stuff on the page so you'll have to wait about 21 hours. Its probably why there is no new article today |
| Dielzen08-15-07, 09:36 PM | GenCon is tomorrow IIRC Part of the GenCon crap is the "premiere unveiling of the Gleemax initiative" |
| Dielzen08-15-07, 10:34 PM | I have seen the future, and it is 4e http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=905847 |
| godbeepit08-15-07, 10:47 PM | Whoa, fourth edition. Shoulda seen that one coming when they started making up stuff for their book ideas. That would also explain the '4dventure'. See. 4. Hahahah what a great pun. |
| SmartPaladin08-15-07, 10:52 PM | 4.0 eh? Should I start running around crying "Doom"? |
| MarkusTay6308-15-07, 10:59 PM | GenCon is tomorrow IIRC Part of the GenCon crap is the "premiere unveiling of the Gleemax initiative"Anything with the word 'glee' in it should be avoided at all costs. |
| MarkHall08-15-07, 11:06 PM | I'm just giggling. I can't help it. |
| godbeepit08-15-07, 11:20 PM | 4.0 eh? Should I start running around crying "Doom"? No, you're supposed to run around shouting "The end is near! We're all going to die!" Best used with a large sign that says the same thing. |
| Lady_Mhaor08-15-07, 11:37 PM | 4th edition? Finnally! |
| SmartPaladin08-15-07, 11:46 PM | No, you're supposed to run around shouting "The end is near! We're all going to die!" Best used with a large sign that says the same thing. No, no. It's "The end is nigh! The end is nigh! The Angel of Death is upon us! The end is Nigh!" Is your going to be a Doomsayer, you gotta do it right. :P Hmm... And while we wait, anyone think we'll get any new races? Like a Half-Dwarf? 'cause, ya know, if a Human can mate with just about anything, then why don't we have a Half-Dwarf yet? |
| MarkusTay6308-16-07, 12:36 AM | Are you referring to the D'tarig, which are canon and live in the mountains bordering Anauroch? |
| SmartPaladin08-16-07, 12:44 AM | Are you referring to the D'tarig, which are canon and live in the mountains bordering Anauroch? The what? Where?! I missed them! *runs off looking* |
| Green Elven Vampire08-16-07, 12:55 AM | Are you friggen' serious? 4ED???? I haven't even bought all the books for 3.5ED! Well, this is one gamer/DM who would rather eat my own genitals than play or buy 4ED! :rolleye2: :nonono: :headexplo :censored: :censored: :thumbsdow |

Well, this is one gamer/DM who would rather eat my own genitals than play or buy 4ED! :rolleye2: :nonono: :headexplo :censored: :censored: :thumbsdow If you do that, you must put it on YouTube or something... Seriously. |
| PharaunMizzrym08-16-07, 01:54 AM | If they switch to 4e I will buy the few 3.5 books me and my dad havent already bought then stop buying wizards products for good (unless they bring back the Ravenloft Campaign Setting). Maybe try some of the World of Darkness or Cthulhu Mythos games. Who is really willing to buy a new copy of all of the 3.5 books, with what, a few rule revisions? I hate this. I really hate this. Without D&D what am I supposed to do with my time? Work hard, become rich, buy a mansion and a sports car and date beautiful women? :weep: :weep: I dont want a 4e! :weep: :weep: |
| MarkHall08-16-07, 02:16 AM | Hmm... And while we wait, anyone think we'll get any new races? Like a Half-Dwarf? 'cause, ya know, if a Human can mate with just about anything, then why don't we have a Half-Dwarf yet? Dwarves Deep actually covered half-dwarves. They are physically and mentally the same as dwarves in every way, as the dwarven deities work to maintain their race on Faerun. Human women who marry dwarven men and bear them children are highly respected. |
| SmartPaladin08-16-07, 03:24 AM | Dwarves Deep actually covered half-dwarves. They are physically and mentally the same as dwarves in every way, as the dwarven deities work to maintain their race on Faerun. Human women who marry dwarven men and bear them children are highly respected. I don't doubt that. The ties of and loyalty to clan is very important to the Dwarves. Their just that kind of race. Anyway, as to "Half-Dwarves" thanks for pointing them out. I had just wondered, seeing as how I was so used to Half-this and Half-that. It was kind of like, "Wait? You mean a human can have a Half Giant, a Half Ogre, Half Orc, and a Half Elf. As well as a few more I have probably forgotten. But they haven't bred with Dwarves yet?!" Guess WotC got one pass me while I wasn't looking. :P |
| kaor08-16-07, 09:11 AM | You have to wonder about all of the half races. Half Gold Dragon/Troglodyte is a legal combo. Would it ever happen though? |
| MarkHall08-16-07, 10:21 AM | It was kind of like, "Wait? You mean a human can have a Half Giant, a Half Ogre, Half Orc, and a Half Elf. As well as a few more I have probably forgotten. | SmartPaladin08-16-07, 11:49 AM | Not WotC. Dwarves Deep is TSR, and printed 7 years before the buyout. Oh, well. Of course it was TSR. You have to wonder about all of the half races. Half Gold Dragon/Troglodyte is a legal combo. Would it ever happen though? Depends on how much to drink they have on hand. :P |
| hawkinsthedm08-16-07, 11:50 AM | We do not know that it is 4ed. I and I think if I have to swallow any more "exciting-news-that-we-won't-tell-you-about-until-GenCon-but-we-know-you-will-love" I think I may commit seppuku. And no, I would not post it on YouTube. Wizards has taught me to hate their surprises and their mystical DI. |
| SmartPaladin08-16-07, 12:04 PM | True, we don't know that it is 4.0. But that's half the fun of running around crying "Dooooooooom!1!!!!1!!!one" is it not? :P As to you committing seppuku... Sir, if you ever did. You would have my eternal respect. |
| Red_Wizard08-16-07, 12:23 PM | 4th edition? Finnally! Why finally? Are you someone who has not wasted hundreds of dollars on multiple editions already? And after their complete and utter failure to improve on rules, simply rehashing, and moving current ones around/ taking them out all together, how can you think a 4E could possibly be any better than what we have. Regardless, the link is not working for me so I have no clue what it suggests, however I am disinclined to believe currently that WoTC has finally sunk to the intelligence level of dried dog feces, and could possibly fathom a 4E being something any already robbed gamer could possibly be willing to fork over more hard earned cash for. |
| Dielzen08-16-07, 12:35 PM | Maybe this link will work better for you guys (they shut down the other one) http://www.enworld.org/ |
| Passivearmada08-16-07, 12:51 PM | Guys, I have to admit I'm a little scared. I started after 3.5 came out. Was it hard for you veterans to make the transition? Geez, that looks like $90 more that I have to spend to catch up (the 3 main books). :P |
| hawkinsthedm08-16-07, 12:58 PM | True, we don't know that it is 4.0. But that's half the fun of running around crying "Dooooooooom!1!!!!1!!!one" is it not? :P As to you committing seppuku... Sir, if you ever did. You would have my eternal respect. I think my wife would be mad at me if I did, so I should probably not. :D And I must admit, it is fun to go around screaming DOOM!!! I just know that I have over $500 in 3.5 books, and unless they come up with an easy conversion (unlike with Star Wars: Saga Edition with which they came up with NO conversion what so ever!), then I would probably have to stick with 3.5 because I am not rich. Nor are most of the people who play D&D. Especially if they spend most of their monthly spending money of D&D books already. ;) |
| SmartPaladin08-16-07, 01:06 PM | I think my wife would be mad at me if I did, so I should probably not. :D And I must admit, it is fun to go around screaming DOOM!!! Nor are most of the people who play D&D. Especially if they spend most of their monthly spending money of D&D books already. ;) Bah, most of my books are still 3.0. Half of the changes are so small, that I didn't really see the point in making the up grade. Besides, I can still remember some of the changes. :D Yeah, wives tend to get upset over things like that. Go figure huh? :P |
| hawkinsthedm08-16-07, 03:33 PM | Now I know how the 2e people felt when 3e came out. I have my suspicions that Hasbro is probably behind the big push for 4e. I really do not know what to do with myself now. I love playing D&D and I love the Forgotten Realms. I own way too many 3.x FR books. That is part of the reason I am reluctant to convert. Maybe they will have a good conversion system set up so it will not be too painful. Damn. This means I will have to design a new character sheet seeing as the one I have posted on RPGSheets.com will soon be delinquent. |
| hawkinsthedm08-16-07, 03:36 PM | And I still don't understand why they did not post the Class Chronicles article for yesterday before the lockdown on the D&D site. Or even why they locked down the D&D site. Grrr. |
| Calero08-16-07, 04:04 PM | Ughh, I can't stand the whole 4e idea. If they were, don't you think they wud've marketed that to the public to make 'em anxious? Yeah thats what I thought. As for the blocking of the site, I'm guessing they are just improving the pages. Maybe a glitche occured and their fixin' it. All I know is it's kind'a annoying, cuz i wanna access my D&D material. Anywho, sorry for my grumpy attititude, but I am sick of 4e. Lord Calero |
| Passivearmada08-16-07, 04:54 PM | I think they should still make books for 3.5E, along with 2E and even 1E, so no one has to convert if they don't want to. |
| MarkHall08-16-07, 04:57 PM | True, we don't know that it is 4.0. But that's half the fun of running around crying "Dooooooooom!1!!!!1!!!one" is it not? :P As to you committing seppuku... Sir, if you ever did. You would have my eternal respect. "I'm gonna sing the Doom Song now." -Gir |
| MerrikCale08-16-07, 04:58 PM | I think they should still make books for 3.5E, along with 2E and even 1E, so no one has to convert if they don't want to. but by forcing you to convert they sell more |
| Zanan08-16-07, 05:07 PM | Well, it is not as worse as loggin onto your favourite footie team's website (and paying for it), trying to listen to the commentary and some bug over there prevents any sound making it accross the North Sea ... (Well, they won and it went online 15 mins into the game, but anyway.) Sourcebooks about the REalms do not need rulebooks to work. Unless they do something very strange to the rules, not much will change anyways. I do not expect that great a change from the well-working 3,5E, more something of a massive errata on all that did not worked smoothly enough ;) |

I thought it was Deekin who sang it in Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark Expansion (http://nwn.bioware.com/underdark/). :P |
| MarkusTay6308-16-07, 05:57 PM | When the system went from 1e to 2e, FR became "the next great thing". and GH became the 'ugly step-child'. When we went from 2e to 3e GH became core, Eberron became "the next great thing", and FR became the 'ugly step-child' (secondary setting). It only seems logical that GH will go the way of the dinosaur (Mystara), FR will go core, and Eberron will take a back seat to some newer, shinier setting, that probably will have less to with RPGing and more about leveling and gear - its the way of the future. :( But the gaming community will keep REAL gaming alive forever.... ;) |
| hawkinsthedm08-16-07, 06:20 PM | Gir? I thought it was Deekin who sang it in Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark Expansion (http://nwn.bioware.com/underdark/). :P I am pretty sure that the NWN:HotU designers got it from Gir who is a character in the Invader Zim cartoon. |
| Zandilar08-16-07, 06:38 PM | Heya, When the system went from 1e to 2e, FR became "the next great thing". and GH became the 'ugly step-child'. When we went from 3e to 4e GH became core, Eberron became "the next great thing", and FR became the 'ugly step-child' (secondary setting). It only seems logical that GH will go the way of the dinosaur (Mystara), FR will go core, and Eberron will take a back seat to some newer, shinier setting, that probably will have less to with RPGing and more about leveling and gear - its the way of the future. :( But the gaming community will keep REAL gaming alive forever.... ;) According to everything I've read, Forgotten Realms will be the very first campaign setting to get the 4e treatment, with the 4e FRCS due in August next year. I don't think this means it is going to be core, do you? (To be absolutely clear: Greyhawk as core for 3e didn't get it's own Campaign Setting book.) Eberron is too niche for it to be anything other than a secondary setting, IMHO. (ie: it's too far away from the usual/generic High Fantasy to appeal widely to fantasy gamers. It's one of the reasons I haven't invested much beyond the ECS... though Races of Eberron is still on my list of books to acquire, simply for the full write up on Changelings.) |
| MarkHall08-16-07, 06:53 PM | The advantage that the Forgotten Realms has over Eberron is that you can come to it from pretty much any modern fantasy author's work and it will resonate with you. Eberron, as much as I can tell, really works as Eberron, and with a few other settings, but you're not going to get used to it from as wide a variety of books. |
| SmartPaladin08-16-07, 09:02 PM | Can I cry doom now? Not so much for 4e, but 'cause the site is "Experiencing Technical Difficulties"? On a side note, how much XP do you think WotC get's for "Experiencing Technical Difficulties"? Enough to level maybe? Or is it just enough to earn back some of the XP they lost? :P |
| MerrikCale08-16-07, 09:35 PM | I don't think this means it is going to be core, do you? I believe they said the core will a non-specific setting |
| MerrikCale08-16-07, 09:38 PM | Are you friggen' serious? 4ED???? I haven't even bought all the books for 3.5ED! | Rinonalyrna Fathomlin08-16-07, 09:52 PM | I'm not angry at all. I am in fact interested in seeing what will be happening in the coming months. Of course, my personal policy regarding the setting is: If I don't like a new rule or change, I just ignore it--period. By the way, it's good to be back--I lurk here a lot but post mainly on Candlekeep.com.:) |

| godbeepit08-17-07, 12:07 AM | I would welcome the change gladly if it weren't so :censored: :censored: the :censored: and :censored: expensive. I really see two good things that can come of this. 1. The rules will be perfect. *Cough*HAHAAH*Cough* 2. My DM might finally realize that information from past editions transfers through the editions when it has absolutely nothing to do with rules. This of course might be less likely than #1. |
| Zanan08-17-07, 03:09 AM | August 2008 means that it will be out two month after the last of the Lady Penitent novels, Ascendency of the Last. I am hopeful that we will see all up to date info on Cormanthor, Twilight War (Shades) and the drow pantheon in there, though given the timescale, The Haunted Lands (Thay) will have to wait a bit. I do hope that material published so far will not be re-printed, but sees massive web-enhancement updating regarding stats, rules and current events, thus the designers can focus on stuff untouched by the conversion as yet. |
| Old Sage08-17-07, 03:19 AM | As I said over at Candlekeep... Remembering that the core 3e D&D rulebooks were released in 1999/2000, and that the FRCS 3e wasn't released until 2001, there's always a possibility that the new FRCS [assuming a new campaign setting for the new edition of the D&D rules, is released] won't be published until at least mid-2009. August 2008 seems a little premature, given how WotC handled the release of the previous FRCS when 3e was first established. It's entirely likely they'll follow the same publishing pattern when releasing campaign-specific sourcebooks, once the 4e rulebooks have been fully released and the worldwide D&D community has become accustomed to the new rules set. |
| BlackHalfDragon08-17-07, 09:39 AM | I guess this means that somone will be floggin the players guide to fareun and the errabon setting for cheapish on amazon soon :D |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin08-17-07, 10:07 AM | and welcome back sometimes the "just ignore that rule" theory can be difficult, especially if that rule/change can effect other things Thanks, good to be back. :) I agree with what you said. But I think it's better for me to try to ignore a change that I hate than to try to rationalize it. With regards to different editions, I honestly tend to just pick and choose what I like. Also, I will admit that part of the reason why I'm not so adverse to 4th edition is because (as I mentioned on Candlekeep) I'm not a DM and I haven't spent as much on hardcovers as a lot of other people have. |
| hawkinsthedm08-17-07, 11:41 AM | Well, I will still buy the 4th Edition FR books as long as they continue to have Realms lore. That is the main reason I bought the 3.x Edition FR books. From what I have read, 4th Edition will be cool, but it will probably be 3-4 years before I upgrade (leaves time for 4.5E to come out, and I can take advantage of the new low prices on used 3.xE books ;)). Oh, and I still believe that Hasbro is the perpetrator, not Wizards. |
| Markustay08-17-07, 11:57 AM | 4.0 will be great. Then we will have a year or two where they screw all that wonderful simplicity up by giving us books with redundent rules and useless PrCs, like the "Toenail-clipping Mage". Then they will have to come out with a 4.5 to clarify all the broken rules... and they will spend the next 2-3 years breaking them all over again. But it's all good, because by then they will have made 160-page stat blocks, and no-one will be buying the books anyway. And the saddest part is, they are probably already plannining 5.0 for 2015.... |
| Paix08-17-07, 12:41 PM | I am very angry. I am have not even started buying and playing 3.5 books and games, nor had a chance to like it yet so that I can be frustrated by the 4th edition announcement. It is this backhanded dealing with long-term hysterical emo fans, we have come to expect from Wizards of the Coast. I needed at least 10-20 years just to be on the safe side. The usual pitchfork, picket line, self-immolation protests is what they should expect from me. Just to make sure I got things right, this is about 3rd edition going into 4th edition, not 2nd to 3rd, correct? (I would hate to get it wrong for the banners) |
| captaincarot08-17-07, 01:00 PM | but by forcing you to convert they sell more not in my case they don't they will lose my custom entirely and i'll go back to writing my own adventures for 3.5ed. just the way we used to back in 1st edition and i did for all them years with RM. so they won't be getting their 90 bucks for the new core books and they wont be getting any more money at all out of me. now just think how much more they could have milked me for if they had stayed with this edition. |
| hawkinsthedm08-17-07, 01:22 PM | Just to make sure I got things right, this is about 3rd edition going into 4th edition, not 2nd to 3rd, correct? (I would hate to get it wrong for the banners) Actually, it originally was about being locked out of the site for 22 hours and not getting my weekly "Class Chronicles" article. But it changed (and rightfully so), into a "WTF were they thinking when they decided to switch to 4E after only 8 years (only five years if you are counting from 3.5E) when we expected at least 10 years!" thread (pardon my strong language, even though it was in acronym). |
| hawkinsthedm08-17-07, 02:08 PM | It is official, on the Doomsday thread in the 4E forum they owned up and said that Hasbro had nothing to do with the decision! :evillaugh BTW: Where the :censored: is my "Class Chronicles" article from 2 days ago! And why did you do the stupid hype thing that caused the server crash? |
| Passivearmada08-17-07, 02:47 PM | Gir? I thought it was Deekin who sang it in Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark Expansion (http://nwn.bioware.com/underdark/). :P No, it was Gir from Invader Zim, in the first episode, I believe (and he just sang "Doom, doom, doom, doom" for 3 months. I love that show.) |
| Muddman08-17-07, 02:50 PM | I'm excited about 4th edition and I'm interested in the advances in the game itself. My only beef is the expense of the books and the delay to release Forgotten Realms stuff. Heck, most of the 3rd ed Forgotten Realms Campaign setting still works for 3.5 so aside from the stated NPCs there shouldn't be much to update so long as they keep on top of the website with updates and articles. I'm interested in the change and am looking forward to everything... except the expense. |
| silbeg08-17-07, 03:55 PM | Are you friggen' serious? 4ED???? I haven't even bought all the books for 3.5ED! Well, this is one gamer/DM who would rather eat my own genitals than play or buy 4ED! :rolleye2: :nonono: :headexplo :censored: :censored: :thumbsdow While I wouldn't go to such extreme measures, I am not really thrilled with a new edition... especially considering how much 3.5E crap I have already purchased. So, I guess I'll make my opinions "known" with my lack of purchases? |
| Suin Bahhar08-17-07, 04:56 PM | Can't say I'm happy with this announcement. But I suspect the rules of the game will largely stay the same. A new Forgotten Realms campaign settingbook is gonna regurgitate the same lore again? I hope this can and will be done with some more love for details and depth and less editing to bare minimalism. Damn I'm feeling sick today... |

Damn I'm feeling sick today... I too have been struggling with nausea since yesterday morning. The whole thing just makes me want to vomit. I still do not understand why they could not wait another 2 years. That seems to be the consensus that I am hearing, and that is what I was expecting. They other thing I hate is that they dropped it on us like a bombshell. No warning. No real hints. Just four months of "wait for the DI, you'll love it." And then a slap in the face. And then they have the audacity to want us to thank them for it. |

(Don't forget that they've been working on this for some time already. I'm sure it will be ready for release then barring disaster.) |

| Calero08-17-07, 11:02 PM | I would welcome the change gladly if it weren't so :censored: :censored: the :censored: and :censored: expensive. I really see two good things that can come of this. 1. The rules will be perfect. *Cough*HAHAAH*Cough* 2. My DM might finally realize that information from past editions transfers through the editions when it has absolutely nothing to do with rules. This of course might be less likely than #1. Bravo to that. I am frankly upset that the wotc didn't give us that much time. And the $$$ is SOOO much. I mean that i want to invest in 4e but it is hard work keeping up with the money that the product demands of you. Thanks.:( |
| derekkohn08-19-07, 11:01 PM | improvements my arss!! yes, a few little changes here & there. so, u need a new book to play the game. that'll be $90.00 please thank you very much (sucker) as for myself i'm still DMing w/ the 2e. i have realy no need for the updates. my friends are happy right where they are. So, if you feel that u need the 4e. go ahead & give them ur hard earned money. if u think this is BS. then boycott the products. this is your world. |
| Passivearmada08-20-07, 10:23 AM | You know, 4E is kind of tempting. They were saying something about how racial ability modifiers aren't so much of a difference at level 20, and that they're going to come up with a system to make thos modifiers count, like an extra +2 to Constitution every 4 or 5 levels (I think they'll do something like that). But hey, I might just make it a house rule. Though the weapon illustration do look very cool =[. Anyhow, I'm not wasting $90 just to find some "good ideas for house rules." |

| selunatic239708-20-07, 04:38 PM | Still running first edition....so I'm not very angry...feeling very sad though! |
| Passivearmada08-21-07, 10:45 AM | Especially since they said that there will be a SRD for the OGL. Why pay $90 for what is free? SRD? OGL? I'm sorry, I'm not good with abbreviations. |
| Karsus the Mad08-21-07, 10:57 AM | SRD? OGL? I'm sorry, I'm not good with abbreviations. System Reference Document and Open Gaming License. Bye Bye FR. I can't afford yet another few thousand on 4e books that will be rehashed 3e lore (which was rehashed 2e lore) with a handful of information to update the timeline lore. Now if they actually detail something like....oh, Lantan or any of the other large percentage of Faerun that hasn't seen more than a paragraph in all previous editions...then sure, I'll be happy to make a purchase. If they simply rehash something like...oh...Waterdeep for the umptinth time, then no. I'll stick to novels for any information updates I might need for any gaming. |
| hawkinsthedm08-21-07, 11:55 AM | SRD? OGL? I'm sorry, I'm not good with abbreviations. SRD (System Reference Document). OGL (Open Game License). Right now you can get all of the core rules (SRD) for D&D 3.5 at www.wizards.com/d20, or at least you could before the site update. They have announced that D&D 4.0 will also be part of the OGL and that means it should have an SRD as well. A good website to visit for the 3.5 SRD in hypertext form is www.d20SRD.org. |

I did not get into D&D until 3rd edition (having parents who think D&D is evil, and then not being able to find anyone at college to play with until your senior year will do that), but I was an avid reader of the novels. I will probably pick up the rest of the 3.x FR books that I do not own, get the 4.0 Campaign Setting, and see if the publish actual material on some of the places they missed in 3.x, like Tethyr, Calimishan (spelling?), and Kara-Tur (I would really appreciate to know what has been going on there in the past several Realms years). The History of the Realms next month is a must though. I do not think that is even going to have any rules junk in it, just lore. I may be wrong. |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin08-22-07, 01:51 PM | I'm sticking with the Realms, but thanks to this "Spellplague" thing and the possible (make that likely) time-jump to 1385 DR, I probably will not be buying any more official sourcebooks, unless someone like Ed Greenwood had a hand in writing them. |
| MarkusTay6308-22-07, 02:16 PM | Ed's been 'in-on' 4e for two years. In fact, several of the changes planned will help bring the Realms back closer to his vision. How can THAT be a bad thing? |
| MarkusTay6308-22-07, 02:38 PM | Sorry, DP |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin08-22-07, 03:26 PM | Ed's been 'in-on' 4e for two years. I know that. So? Many people (myself included) knew 4E was inevitable, because that's the nature of the business. In fact, several of the changes planned will help bring the Realms back closer to his vision. How can THAT be a bad thing? Where did I say all this was a "bad thing"? I didn't. I'm just saying it's not what I want for "my" Realms...which is my opinion, and I'm entitled to it. I don't have to justify it either (and I don't even care if I'm in the minority--I can deal with that). |
| Swiftblade08-22-07, 05:40 PM | If no one here has heard, there is a 4ed forum, with a Doomsday spot for you to make yourself heard about disappointments and such with 4th Ed, but to let you know, it actually will be May of 08 and there are going to be significant changes rules side of things. No THank YOU. |
| hawkinsthedm08-22-07, 06:17 PM | Shhh! Don't tell the WizOs please, we are enjoying a quite thread here. All of the "Official" 4e threads are huge and glutted. |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin08-23-07, 01:28 PM | If no one here has heard, there is a 4ed forum, with a Doomsday spot for you to make yourself heard about disappointments and such with 4th Ed... I'm not disappointed with the edition change, only with the upcoming setting changes. |
| waiwode08-23-07, 02:24 PM | Angry? Not at all. It'll have been five years between 3.5 coming out and the release of 4e. Why sit on your laurels when gaming has been continually changing around us? There are a dozen things I don't dig about 3.5, and if Saga is anything to judge by, the design team feels similarly. Just based on what I've seen so far, (the Fighter highlight), it looks like they've tried to take a lot of things I love (like Iron Heroes) and rolled them in. It's fantastic that some games don't change, like Call of Cthulhu which is in the 6th essentially identical edition now. However I don't fear change. I don't know that I'm a slavering fan-boy for 4e. Better, I know I'm not. But although skeptical, my interest is piqued, and I eagerly await each glimpse into the upcoming product. Doug. |
| Passivearmada08-25-07, 10:35 AM | I tihkn I will convert to 4E when it comes out. I like everything they're talking about, and I think I can save $90 by May. 3.5 seemed a little too confusing at times, and the guy in the videos was saying that they're going to make it a lot easier for everyone, including the DM. I felt like for a large portion of our gaming sessions, we were discussing rules. The previews have me excited, and I'm beginning to think it's not half bad. Besides, I think I want to see what Ed Greenwood really wanted. |
| MarkusTay6308-25-07, 11:05 AM | Thats funny... The jerk with the cheesy French accent is the only thing that would convince me NOT to buy into 4e. I'm having seconds thoughs anyway, though... I have a HUGE collection of 3rd party stuff as well, and now all of THAT will be unuseable. I might buy 4th Ed. FR material, but I really have to think long and hard about playing with 4th edition rules. |
| ORC_Tuhteth08-25-07, 07:51 PM | Guys, I don't want to interrupt the discussion, but it really needs to be transplanted over to the D&D 4e (http://forums.gleemax.com/forumdisplay.php?f=686) boards. Please continue the discussion (which I've been following with great interest) over there. :) |
