| eternalwelcome06-05-07, 10:07 AM | Hello, With out access to books at the moment and time contstraints playing in, would anyone be willing to post, please, the pre-req's for the Magelord prestige class in Lost Empires of Faerun? Many thanks... |
| Old Sage06-05-07, 11:10 AM | Posting such information would likely be a breach of the Forum Code of Conduct. |
| Red_Wizard06-05-07, 11:25 AM | Normally this will be the case, but luckily for you wizards included the Magelord in their exert from the LEoF back before the books release. The entire Prestige class can be found here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20050202a&page=2). Enjoy :) |
| BadCatMan06-05-07, 09:05 PM | Bear in mind that those prerequisites mean the class is impossible to complete pre-epic. Conventional wisdom is that they are wrong. A good idea is to reduce the arcane spell to 4th-level. (You ought to keep Evasion because it's clearly a rogue/wizard cross-class PrC, and balances the whole thing out, a bit.) |
| Dielzen06-05-07, 09:31 PM | While I hate to be negative, your assumption that you can't complete this PrC prior to epic levels is innaccurate. Level 1 - Rogue Human; Improved Initiative, Dodge, Mobility, Endurance (2 flaws) Levels 2 - 8, Wizard; Combat Casting (CL 3), Spell Mastery (at Wiz5), Signature Spell (CL 6) Levels 9-10 Spelldancer; Weapon Focus (ray) (CL 9) Levels 11-20; Magelord Yes, this requires two Flaws from Unearthed Arcana, but it's doable. Edit - I should add that Rog isn't strictly required at 1st level, tho it does make the skill requirements easier to make. This also allows a dovetail into Arcane Trickster if you like, instead of Magelord, and still having CL 19 at level 20. |
| BadCatMan06-05-07, 09:40 PM | Well, it can be completed pre-epic with a lot of complicated jiggery-pokery and jumping into completely separate and unrelated PrCs... not as intended with a straight and simple Rogue/Wizard base. |
| Borris06-05-07, 09:42 PM | But that's assuming you're in a game where the DM uses the flaws system, and I have yet to see one who does. |
| Dielzen06-05-07, 09:50 PM | Well, it can be completed pre-epic with a lot of complicated jiggery-pokery and jumping into completely separate and unrelated PrCs... not as intended with a straight and simple Rogue/Wizard base. The "straight and simple" Rog/Wiz already exists in the form of the Arcane Trickster. And, other than the Evasion requirement and the 3 bumps to SA, I don't really see this as a Rog/Wiz class, given the poor selection of roguely skills assigned to this class. The Rog aspect of this class is primarily for dueling to both cut down on damage taken and to use things like feint. I used Magelord for a 1-level dip on the way to making an Arcane Trickster build that, at 20th, had a caster level of 19, I just knew it was possible, and you'll find that a spelldancer isn't that far from a rog/wiz concept, although it's primarily built for a Bard setup. |
| Dielzen06-05-07, 09:52 PM | But that's assuming you're in a game where the DM uses the flaws system, and I have yet to see one who does. /shrug, our DM lets some players do it and prevents some. When I DM I allow them. |
| Red_Wizard06-06-07, 08:24 AM | /shrug, our DM lets some players do it and prevents some. When I DM I allow them. If you are going to start letting people use stuff out of "Unearthed Arcana", especially in this case, let them use the optional rule to sack a feat in exchange for evasion, then presto changeo no loss to caster level :P. |

| Red_Wizard06-07-07, 11:45 AM | Somewhere near the middle-3/4 of the way through the book IIRC. Can't give an exact page number right this second (What with being at work and all :P), But I can update you specifically when I'm home if you'd like. |
| Red_Wizard06-10-07, 09:41 AM | Page 76 un Unearthed Arcana, has the option for selecting Evasion (among other things) instead of a free feat for that level. |
| BadCatMan06-10-07, 10:04 AM | That's only for the Generic Classes variant, which is a major departure from D&D. |
| Red_Wizard06-10-07, 09:50 PM | Your idea of a major departure from dnd, and mine are apparently vastly dirrent then. Last time I checked, those are no different than making new base classes. Not such a drastic change, but to each there own I suppose :P. The point remains though that they are optional rules in a book of optional rules, so as a DM if you are going to go outside of core, then that would be an easier method of entering the Magelord PrC than taking two levels of rogue for evasion. |
| canadianguy06-10-07, 10:24 PM | I believe you can do it through combat medic as well. There was a build posted somewhere here. |
