mino pally???? [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-30-07, 05:51 PM I have a lvl 12 mino 8 mino, 4 fighter, and Im tring to find a class that is like a pally but doesnt really use spells. Since a minos cha is terrible. I need some suggestions and help. Im looking for something like a pally, but without the stat based on cha. Some kind of class that worships Helm, and can he viewed like a pally if that makes any sence

My mino fallows Helm. Any suggestions would be great...

08-30-07, 05:58 PM -I'd be able to help you more if, you know, you made sense. The gist of what you are talking about, I think, is that you have a Minotaur character, and you are looking for a Paladin-like class, but without the spellcasting. If that is so, try the Knight.

08-30-07, 06:29 PM If you want to make Charisma a dump stat but don't mind putting a few points in Wisdom, then I'd recommend the Pious Templar from Complete Divine. You'll need three feats (if your deity's favored weapon isn't a simple weapon or a greataxe) and five ranks of Knowledge (religion), but that can all be done (even with the ranks at cross-class) by the time you're done with your monster progression. In no order, you'll get d10 HD, two good saves, smite not dependant on Charisma, fighter bonus feats (including weapon specialization for your deity's weapon), mettle (the Evasion of Will and Fortitude), and damage reduction. You also get a paladin's spellcasting or, if you're a nongood Templar of Helm, you could choose the blackguard spell list instead.

The only downside I see is that Helm's favored weapon is the bastard sword, and with a minotaur's strength, you'd probably be better using a two-handed weapon, but that's really a minor thing.

However, if you can stand to pick another deity as a patron, I'd recommend Torm. He's close to Helm in theme, and his one closest ally. His favored weapon is the Greatsword. I'd recommend taking a level of fighter first in order to gain proficiency with armor and the greatsword, and take Weapon Focus (greatsword) as your bonus feat in order to qualify for the Pious Templar class. You can't take the blackguard spells in that case, but I'm quite sure your character is leaning towards good or you wouldn't be asking for a class that's like a paladin.

09-04-07, 08:52 AM There's a feat in Dragon Compendium Vol I (published by Paizo) that makes you use your Wis modifier instead of your Cha modifier when using all Paladin abilites based on Cha, with no prerequisite (I think the original prerequisite was to have a specific Greyhawk god as patron, I don't remember which one). You may convince your DM to 'invent' a similar feat (you know, making this isn't unbalanced).
