| Chosen of Bane05-04-07, 02:29 PM | In my current game the PC's are traveling by boat from Mulmaster to Melvaunt and I would like to have an encounter on a boat as a way of having an encounter that's a little different. I'm drawing a blank in the creativity department so I'm looking for any ideas/suggestions for what to throw at them without using the cliche pirates and dragon turtles. The party has 7 PC's of 7th level. Thanks in advance. |
| MalariaMoon05-04-07, 05:10 PM | Doesn't a race of evil aligned aquatic elves inhabit the Moonsea? They would perhaps be the most obvious choice following dragon turtles and pirates. Also you could think about the fact the Moonsea is an inland body of water and think freshwater critters instead of ocean monsters. Like a Giant Dire Otter? Maybe I'm not helping! Finally, there is the Bell of the Depths (the ruins of Northkeep, sank to the bottom by a horde of humanoid shamans. That must make for some unquiet ghosts! Perhaps will-o-wisps could lure the ship off course on an overcast night until they're floating above Northkeep. Cue an eerie tolling bell, and spirits rising out of the waters ... |

| Calmar05-04-07, 05:59 PM | Sahuagin could do well, I suppose, but I think they are better suited in warm climates. I'd say the aquatic versions of ogres, trolls, or gargoyles (merrows, scrags and... well aquatic gargoyles respectively), mayhap combined with some summoned water elementals could work fine. Some sea hag sound also pretty interesting. Or have you ever thought about some pirates or dragon turtles? ;) |
| Chosen of Bane05-04-07, 07:04 PM | Ooh, Pirates and Dragon Turtles, hadn't thought of that... Maybe I should be really creative and throw a Kraken at them too, never heard of one of those attacking a boat. Does anybody know what book the Scrabs and Merrow can be found in? Cause I had considered them because I remembered them from certain novels, but I don't remember seeing them statted in 3.5. |
| Chosen of Bane05-04-07, 07:11 PM | Huh, found Merrow and Scrags in the SRD. Who would have though they'd tuck them away in such an obscure source.... (and that is why I suck) |
| wtf_thats_my_head05-04-07, 07:43 PM | ok water elf partol 3 water els 6 lesser water orcs/ goblins |
| MarkusTay6305-04-07, 11:11 PM | The evil albino sea Elves are called Marels, and are UNIQUE to this region, and therefore you SHOULD use them because it is the PERFECT opportunity to do so. I don't think that Sahuagin can exist in the Moonsea, it is freshwater, as opposed to the Sea of Fallen Stars which is salt. I got that info from the FR FAQ (I think that was the source, but I know its canon). In case you don't have MotM, they live near the Bell in the Depths, but can be found elsewhere in the Moonsea. |
