I'm trrying to figure out what possible motivation would move a LE Wizard/BlackGuard worshipping Cyric to save the lives of thousands (mostly goodly folk) People dying from disease, being attacked by a cult from the inside etc......A very unlikely hero if you ask me, but I cant think of a motivation for him......Any ideas?

He could be after fame, so people won't believe that he acutally did sack that town singlehandedly? BoVD is good for such things, you'll always want somewhere where people won't want to kill you.

Because the death of those people would remove the powerbase for the beginnings of his planned pricipality. Saving the "normals" endebts them to him and might make them overlook his "parentage" if he needs a favor(Who couldn't use thousands of pitchfork wielding peasants as backup when your coup plans for the neighboring village fall through?). Besides, that disease would spread death and chaos, neither of which are Banes.;)

Because after you save the town you now have a person town/stronghold of loyal villagers that you can slowly convert in cyricites(?) before the shadows walkers appear and kill you for worshiping the usurper to intrigue protfolio

Fame, Glory, Loyalty. Monies.

Ph4t L3wtz if its a rich area and he thinks he'd be rewarded well.

Heck, it could even have been a random byproduct. Maybe the instigator, if there was one, was an old rival and the character simply wanted to thwart whatever the plan was.

Edit: If Cyric tells him to do it, it could simply be a powerplay against another Dark God.

Very likely to counteract a rival or outright enemy, rather than to save the town for its own sake. A plague? Seems Talona's people have been a little too successful of late; they seem in need of a little pruning.
Also, he just might be the only one who can help the town, and wait for them to scratch together the HUGE sum he requires as payment... he might even have caused the problem for this very end!

Greed is one, but I like what I have read so far by others

Basicly they all have the same idea
That is your evil Char, has his or her own plans, for this town and does not wish to see it lost
